happy holidays everyone.  lets hope for an exciting signing day experience for SB football in 2016.  Spoke to coach P at graduation last week, and he said that he has limited scholarships to offer this season, I recall he mentioned a number of less than 10.  this was due to a variety of factors related to where the various players were in their roads to using their eligibility.

Happy Holidays to you and the board as well. 10 scholarship offers is very low. Maybe we can get one or two transfers to start at the O line and maybe we get lucky at finding a Quarterback to replace Bednarski!!!

Coach p has pulled three scholarships from players for no other reason than he needs them and the players haven't developed enough at this point. The players will transfer, he"ll say they transferred but he forced them too. This is killing him in recruiting ... He's desperate and the other caa coaches know it .. Recruits will not feel safe going to stony brook thanks to coach P ... Live by the transfer  die by the transfer hope he finds some good ones b/c his actions are hurting stony brook

Sounds like another administrative FUBAR . I don't blame kids for not  coming 10 scholarships  is nothing for a CAA  team.

I feel sorry for those kids, but the scholarships are revisited on a year by year basis.  there are no guarantees in the scholarship world.  this is a make or break year for P and his coaching team.  they will have to cut some dead wood loose if they need more scholarships.

I agree 100% BFF. Coach P job is on the line and if he has another losing season, I'd expect him to get the ax..We need better players on Offense and If scholarships are yanked, i'm sorry yank it and open a slots for better athletes so we get back to the winning ways again. This is a business for the coaching staff and job are on the line, make it happen coach P!!!!!!!

Agree have to get better.. But in their desperation they're  selling tomorrow for today. The reputation they are gaining is making it hard to compete with other CAA schools. Using transfers is fine but it hurts team chemistry and sbu football shows it on the field .. They're not a tight unit and are unable to rally late in games. The kids who lose their scholarships could've went  to other div 1 schools, but now have to sit a year making it unlikely. That causes a lot of ill- will . If they recruit better and more thoroughly you won't have this problem. P should develope his players. Don't pull scholarships. That is bad business and is sewing the seeds for future bad seasons.. Which is what we're in the middle of now..New Hampshire developes players and doesn't pull scholarships.. And every year they are good . Not a five Win team like us

Agreed Morgan.  The other related issue, but sort of the flipside of the coin, is that when scholarship money is given to kids out of high school who wind up not playing up to the level that was anticipated, it prevents the program from being able to keep their word and reward those players who show up as walk-ons (preferred or otherwise) and wind up substantially contributing on the field.  Those kids are assured that if/when they make substantial contribution on the field they will be rewarded with scholarship $.  They have to earn it, which is probably how it should be.  But, once earned, the program needs to keep up its end of the bargain and reward those kids who earned it with their efforts.  This doesn't always happen.
Bottom line, the program would really help itself by doing a better job of identifying scholarship worthy talent at the beginning of the process.

I don't necessarily like the practice, but I think it's relatively common for coaches to pull scholarships from players that aren't developing. A lot of schools approach scholarships as a one year commitment that you have to earn the following year. I have it on pretty good authority that coach Brown at Albany pulls scholarships from athletes who aren't developing, and it's worked out alright for them.

A case might be made that he's doing them a favor. If they want to play football and it's evident to coach P this isn't the right level for them, why string them along and waste their eligibility on the bench.

more on will tye (my jersey is en route in the mail): http://gmenhq.com/2016/01/03/will-tye-giants-baby-gates-antonio-gates/

Quote
Is Will Tye aka Baby Gates the Next Antonio Gates?

Most would agree that he’s a guy the Giants can win with and will only get better next season. What’s so likable about Tye is his confidence. He believes he can be like Beckham, in that he wants the ball with a chance to win the games in the waning minutes. He even stated in that same interview that he loves to watch Antonio Gates.

He’s become Eli’s go to guy when Beckham isn’t open. And what’s more, he’s become a dependable dude in the red zone, where the Giants have struggled so greatly.
