I would still rather SB make it and stay at an elite level of FCS than bounce around in the cellar of FBS. Winning and being competitive in the post season generates more excitement than losing at a higher level.

It really depends on what we're playing for. If we're playing for the Access Bowl, bowls against P5 competition, or otherwise bowls against good teams, then moving up definitely makes sense. If we're moving up though to go 6-6 and play another 6-6 team in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl in front of 50 people, then I'd rather have the FCS playoffs.

Buffalo is in line to win the MAC this year and have an 11 win season. You know what their reward is going to be? The Dollar General Bowl against the third place team in the Sun Belt (if that). They could do much worse than that, but you're talking about an 11 win team playing in a weak bowl. The G5 conferences really need to negotiate better bowl tie-ins during the next go round, but I'd rather have the FCS playoffs than a low end bowl. I agree there.

That said, should a spot in a regional G5 conference open up (with teams like Temple, Umass, JMU,Delaware, etc.) I think we should take it. At least there we'd be playing regional teams with a higher profile. As it stands though with the current tie-ins, FBS bowls aren't that appealing unless you make the access bowl against a top 10 P5 team. I've somewhat changed my stance on this as joining the MAC, going 6-6 against Bowling Green and Kent State, then maybe playing ULM in a crappy bowl game isn't as appealing to me as the FCS playoffs. The number of bowl games needs to be cut in half.
