Agreed Morgan.  The other related issue, but sort of the flipside of the coin, is that when scholarship money is given to kids out of high school who wind up not playing up to the level that was anticipated, it prevents the program from being able to keep their word and reward those players who show up as walk-ons (preferred or otherwise) and wind up substantially contributing on the field.  Those kids are assured that if/when they make substantial contribution on the field they will be rewarded with scholarship $.  They have to earn it, which is probably how it should be.  But, once earned, the program needs to keep up its end of the bargain and reward those kids who earned it with their efforts.  This doesn't always happen.
Bottom line, the program would really help itself by doing a better job of identifying scholarship worthy talent at the beginning of the process.
