Stony Brook Alum Timon Parris Claimed by NFL's Falcons, Paving Way for Week 1 Roster Spot
https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2020/9/6/football-stony-brook-alum-timon-parris-claimed-by-nfls-falcons-paving-way-for-week-1-roster-spot.aspx

I had totally forgotten about Parris. Great to hear!!

Unfortunately it also looks like Connor Davis didn't make the cut for the Jets. He's been in and out of the AAF, XFL, and now various NFL camps.

If only this could happen to Stony Brook.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/hall-of-famer-deion-sanders-returns-to-college-football-as-head-coach-at-fcs-jackson-state/

Deion could have publicly stated he wanted to coach here and Heilbron would have still kept Priore.

No doubt. Priore will be SB coach all the way until he retires. If I'm not mistaken he is at retirement age now.

I didn't even know he got promoted to the active roster. I know they had a lot of injuries, but one would have thought the friggin SBU Twitter and Instagram pages would be shouting the news that Gavin suited up for the active gameday roster.

Who said he was supposed to start? Where did that come from?

Apparentely, Seatle had a few injuries in their secondary and that is why Gavin was moved up to active roster.

I definitely found out via Twitter: https://twitter.com/StonyBrookFB/status/1312477965578498049?s=20

As great as being on the active roster, it's still not getting an actual snap. I hate fighting this uphill battle where just getting on an active roster is considered some sort of "accomplishment".

You want to know what's an actual accomplishment? FCS Illinois State RB James Robinson being the leading ROTY candidate. Or Indiana State TE Robert Tonyan catching three TDs on Monday Night Football. Not just making it to an active roster and then not even seeing a snap. I'm so tired of this program's lack of actual NFL production when you have other schools in the CAA actually doing something of their alumni.

SH has no desire to ever make a coaching change. Coach P will probably finish out his carrier with SB as their HC, because of that SB will never have a player drafted in the NFL. Apparentely, SBU is OK with this and they are OK with being just a middle of the road FCS football team. So many people I know who used to be a season ticket holder for football, have given up on this team and coach P. To tell you the truth, I am almost at that point now.

My son had to make a decision recently to finish up his college at either Binghampton or Stony Brook and he chose  SB next year for Business. I suppose I have 2 more years of watching coach P get out coached by every other CAA coach in this conference.

The real kicker here is that it's not even a lack of talent. Didn't we get an FCS leading 11 players into NFL camps last year? We get talented guys into the program, but the coaching staff can never seem to develop them into draftable players. Every year you see at least one or two guys get drafted from D2 in the early rounds, but SBU as a top 25ish FCS program can't even get one? Are you serious?

P has to go. Only three more seasons of him (sigh).

Former Big South conference mate Coastal Carolina has been ranked in the AP poll for the first time ever in just their fourth year of FBS football.

https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll

Additionally, another former Big South conference member Liberty is receiving plenty of votes and would be the 33rd ranked team in the country if the rankings went down that far. Every FBS conference has announced plans to have some kind of fall season, so it's not some fluke due to only half of the country playing football.

Need I remind you all that both schools are programs we frequently beat up on when we were in the Big South. I don't want to hear any of this bull**** that we'd never be a competitive FBS program, or that we don't belong there, or some other nonsense. Academically we run circles around both of those schools and are far more desirable. Don't tell me we couldn't make it in the FBS.
