Assuming that's solid intel and true (and what a lot of us probably thought anyway), feels like this one change puts SBU back to mid-pack in the AE next year no matter what.

Sorry we didn't get one more year of Yeboah, he was a rock-solid, consistent SBU talent (one of the best ever, for sure), and can't blame him one bit.

Wasted no time with Boals' departure.  If what theGreatK said is true, that he sat with Heilbron and lobbied for Geno Ford, then Ford is definitely not being asked to be HC.

Akwasi has been a much better player than Cremo (who went to Nova) and Nicholls (Florida St), so if he is in fact transferring, I would expect a Top 10 school, nothing less.

Best of luck to Akwasi - great player and a gentleman!

If any of the remaining guys transferred, they'd have to sit out a year, per NCAA transfer rules.  Garcia could do the grad transfer a year from now though, since he will be a redshirt Junior this upcoming year (like Akwasi was this year).

Good question with Foreman.  He just sat out a year.  Does that mean he could go anywhere right now, and renege on SBU, or is he locked to SBU?  Losing Akwasi is a blow, although expected.  Losing Foreman too, with Cornish graduating, would be absolutely brutal.

Heilbron has to earn his money right now and keep team together mentally.  If Akwasi would have stayed if Ford was hired (implied rumor from other thread), not sure Heilbron made the right move then.  He could have hired Ford, and always fired him subsequently, if he didn't perform this upcoming year.  Questions, questions, questions.....

I’m skeptical in believing that Akwasi’s decision to transfer has much at all to do with whether or not Geno Ford becomes the next coach. It’s more probable that he just wants to take his game to a better conference with higher exposure.

I'm skeptical too, but if there was that chance to keep him, I may have made concessions.  I would think Akwasi has been thinking about this for awhile now (and also thinking of turning pro, since he's 22ish).  With Boals leaving, Akwasi has the perfect get-out-of-jail free card explaining his decision to his teammates based on the coaching bailout.

I figured Yeboah would leave. That was a given in my mind. Even if Boals didn't go he might bounce, now with Boals going, Yeboah going was a done deal in my mind. I expected that.

What I expected him to do though was go pro in Europe perhaps and cash in, I didn't expect him to transfer. If he does transfer, then Rutgers is an obvious landing spot, though I wouldn't blame him if he went bigger than that and for the sake of an possible NBA career, it might be better he go bigger. Go to a contender. Maybe Michigan State? Izzo has been a master at developing players. In any case, I wish Akwasi the best and I wish him well wherever he goes.  He's definitely a huge loss no doubt, but Garcia was 6th man of the year and can step right in and contribute. Plus, we shouldn't let a departing player dictate our coaching choice. Ford is NOT the guy. Even if he would have kept Yeboah around. Wednesday night as awful.

WOW Just WOW!!. Another few years of rebuilding with this program before any stability again. SB is a stepping stone school for coaches to move up and out into a  more stable, midmajor school. I still say SB needs to try their hardest to make that leap out of the AE, and even the CAA, and into a higher, more respected conference. A10 for Basketball would be a start. It's not like the school doesnt have the resources to do so.

Having two different head coaches in his college years is hard enough..I wish Yeboah all the best with his BB career.

Unfortunate but can't blame him- not a good feeling going onto a 3rd coach for sure. Also he's 22 which puts the clock on him. Obviously I'd love for him to stay but we have some solid players that can step in for him next year. Garcia can fill his void nicely. I think Jules Moor showed a lot of promise. The team won't be as good without him but I'm not sure if it will be a giant drop-off. Ideally if we can grab a good coach maybe he can grab some late recruits to fill the void.

Anyway I'm rooting for Akwasi- was a class act from Day 1 here. If he changes his mind and stays I'll be thrilled.

Getting a good coach will mitigate this loss though

This is an old link from 3/22, when he first registered on the transfer hub.  This is not new information, and since Akwasi registered, Heilbron came out with Boals' statement, saying that Akwasi has not decided to leave yet, and is leaving that option open.  So for now, he's still with us.
