What would you do with the last roster spot?
« on: March 29, 2018, 10:47:25 am »
We don't know exactly what we have in the incoming group, but I'm curious which direction you all would go in. Do we need more size? Shooting? Athleticism?

I voted for Ty. He was one of the more enigmatic players that I can think of at SBU, if we got stretch 4 who, on his best days, can get on the glass and also stick the outside shot, I think that would be a great fit.

I went with the Bryan Sekunda type, but what I mean by that is i'd like them to bring anyone with above average three point shooting ability for their position. Some who can help spread the floor. I also think it should be a junior college transfer to try to even out the scholarship classes a bit or possibly even hold onto it for an extra 2019 scholarship.

I agree with you on the juco part. Big picture, we don't load up on them ideally, but we have just two players who have played more than one season of college basketball (Garcia's a third if you count the year he sat out). We'll be short on experience.

I'm counting on Latimer, Ceesay and Moor to provide the shooting that we lost with UC and Sekunda.

I went with a spread the floor sharp shooter too. Preferably with capable defense. A 3&D player if we can find one.

I went with a Junior Saintel type who can defend.  Also, think it should be a JUCO transfer with some experience playing, to complement all the young kids coming in.

P.S.  My answer would have been a # 5, if we hadn't landed Jeff Otchere.  My, how one big signing can change things..............
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

you'll never see me advocate for anything other than bigs (as they make a big difference in this league) but i think we're going to need 2s.  we shoot terrible at times.  we graduate the deuce.  garcia is unproven and who knows the future.

look at our history.  when did we have great seasons?  joiner, brenton, warney.  when did we have disappointing seasons?  before and after.

Sharp shooter. Floor spacing is the way to go. A shooter keeps the lane from clogging up. Allows Olaniyi, Cornish, Lattimer to attack the rack. Will give Ochefu and Otchere more space in the paint to work with.
Basketball is a lot simpler with court spacing than it is without it.

I went  with a Brian Secunda type who has a decent if not high percentage long ball , can hit free throws and grab a few boards underneath .  Should be around  6'6 or 6'7  also need size underneath .  Right now we have three bigs two of them very big . I see Ochefu  coming into his own this season . Otchere will contribute right away and should only be better with time and Christi should get better I don't know much about him .

I went with a really good shooting 2/3 WHO CAN SHOOT FREE THROWS AT GAME_END CRUNCH TIME!!!

Last spring Coach B.'s staff seemed to show serious interest in Adrain Nelson out of Pinkerton North in Ohio.  He later committed to Detroit Mercy.  Well, he was just released from hi LOI and is reopening his recruitment.  He's right in Coach B.'s old stomping grounds, and I believe he would be an excellent get/perfect for the program.  Check him out.

put that in the recruiting thread!  it looks like we offered him.  not sure if he visited.

i can see why he skipped his hometown, in-state YSU (too many guards in front).  JMU is a threat but there is a three star just a year ahead.

a lot of blocks and dunks in his video.  not bad for 6'6''!!!

I'd think if we want him, we'd be in the running.
