Welcome Coach Boals!

Thought this deserved a thread since we now know the answer to the "now what?" question in the other thread.

Welcome to SBU, Coach Boals! I am excited about this hire. Thank you to Shawn Heilbron and staff as well for what was undoubtedly a stressful, challenging, and exciting search process.

From what I have gathered Coach Boals will be a quality addition to SBU and the community. I will be right back in my seat next season in full support.

Best of luck to SBU basketball as this new era begins.

I have no problems renewing my tickets, too.

Amazing how some people are so critical of this hire. I'm sure Shawn didn't hire him without doing his DD....Even if Boals brings us one quality player next season we will be right back on top of the div.

There is a lot of whining on the Basketball Forum AE SB thread.  Most of it is in support of Jay Young because he was a DII HC and an Associate HC. 

No one mentions that Boals recruited D'Angelo Russell.  Three current NBA players backed him when he was named SB coach.  He convinced a top 35 recruit to go to Akron, a mid-major, when he was an assistant there.  He's been to the Final Four.  Can these people give the guy a chance?

I feel like these people are just friends/relatives of Young and became Stony Brook fans because of the connection! Its ridiculous the amount of venom being spouted towards the AD Heilbron for picking Boals and towards Boals.. its like the HC job was Young's birthright.

A few on the other boards are definitely related to Young in way or another. But that's ok because when Boals brings in his first 3 star recruit, they will disappear and can be found on the Scarlet Knights forum!

In Heilbron we trust!!!!!!!

By all accounts this is a great hire! I expected nothing less from Shawn. I like the way this program is headed. As for Jay, gonna miss him. Probably didn't have the personality needed to run a program like SBU. No knock on him. Just his demeanor. Jay landed on his feet.Lets not forget there is a business element to this. It takes more that a basketball mind to run a successful program. I agree with a clean sweep of everyone.

Shawn posted the first breakdown with the team on Twitter- I'm already getting pumped.

I tuned in late and only caught the last few minutes/final question about staff and schedule. Hope the entire thing is posted later for viewing....?  Curious, any reactions from the faithful if you saw it or were there?

Obviously an accomplished coach with a set of values that matches the current program well, both for on-court and off-court perspectives.  Looks like he's gotten a good start in cementing relationships with his team.  Glad to see him get a little emotional; it speaks to how much the job means to him and how invested he is.

Nice PC, short and sweet.

I'm incredibly excited to see what staff he builds. He mentioned Coach Chapman by name so there's a good chance he stays IMHO for some continuity in the program. I think the other priorities are get an assistant with a good NE recruiting acumen and somebody for Strength and Conditioning ASAP. We have another recruiting spot- thinking out loud but maybe there's some JuCo from Ohio that can fill our last spot.

Happy to have a coach and to get the 2016 show on the road.

Boals was poised, well spoken, and I like his mannerisms. Took questions in stride.

He's a defensive specialist, and good defense wins the AEC. He did mention "loose" and "letting kids make mistakes" on offense. I think he'll find that mid-major players need some better organization, but hes been to Robert Morris and Akron - he knows this.

I'm very excited about this guy personally. AEC doesn't get many Big-6 pedigree guys. I'd like to see how this goes.
