A pretty good read. Bottom line, he was a big-time recruit who didn't chase the bright lights. Thank goodness he didn't.

wow.  I would've said the first three seasons he "got it".

I'm trying to remember just now, but I think I've seen every home game (and a few road games) of Warney's entire time at SBU. Maybe I missed one or two, but I don't think so.

I also saw today he was named a "record-tying" 14th AE player of the week, tying Vermont's Coppenrath.

Warney has been great, not just for SBU but for the conference. What more could you ask (besides hoping the team finally gets that NCAA spot this year)? Undoubtedly he will add an AE player of the week record to his numerous others.

All that said and not to dismiss any of it, I'd sure like to see Warney hit just a slightly higher gear in AE play this last time around. Since he was mentioned in the award today, I think back to Coppenrath and when I saw him play (a few times at SBU games) the guy just owned the court from beginning to end. I remember thinking at the time, "Oh man, this guy is good--just flat-out better than everyone else out there."

It's strange in that I think almost the same thing about Warney, although it seems he doesn't always command games to quite that same degree. I know, I know--different player and different times, still I'd like to see Warney really run roughshod through this league like I think he's capable of doing. I'd point to the last home game as an example--very little presence and influence in the first half (and, yes, I know fouls put him on the bench, but while he was out there it just didn't feel like he was playing at a high energy level or in command of the game) vs high-energy demolition in the second half.

Anyway, the guy has been out there pounding and getting a lot done over 3 1/2 years much more than my sorry a$$ could ever do. Here's hoping for more good things for Warney and SBU in these last few months of a great talent.

I wish they ran the offense through Jameel more, or that he was capable of being that guy who could be fed on the post time and again. He's our leading scorer, yes, but so much of that has to do with second-chance opportunities. Petrasek from Columbia did a nice job denying him the ball early but he still managed to get his 20. It was a quiet 20 though. We have enough weapons where we don't need to feed him on the block every time. However, I think that's why Coppenrath stood out more.

Also, he was a threat inside and out. If only Jameel could knock down the 12 to 15 footer, he would be even more of a factor offensively.

Yes, Checkmate, good points about Coppenrath's ability to step out and hit jump shots. That was a significant additional weapon he had. (BTW and to a much lesser degree, a nice additional twist to McGrew's game this year that he hits with more consistency).

Vermont had a very good second option in Sorrentine, although I can't recall much more about those teams with regard to overall talent. SBU does, admittedly, have several other good players who often step up after Warney and Puriefoy.
