Game 23: SBU at UMass Lowell
« on: February 03, 2016, 10:56:16 pm »
UMASS LOWELL
Record: 8-14 (4-5 America East)
Last Game: W, 85-83 at Hartford 2/4
Last 2 Years v. SBU: Last year – SBU 65-45 there; SBU 75-60 here; This year – SBU 86-59 here
Notables:
6-2 RSo G/F Jahad Thomas 12.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.0 spg, .577 FG%
6-0 Fr G Isaac White 10.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.0 spg, .404 3 pt FG%
6-1 So G Matt Harris 9.8 ppg, .443 3 pt FG%
6-6 Jr F Tyler Livingston 9.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg

We handled them pretty well here and I suspect we will take care of business up there. UML draws very few fans and they've dropped three straight at home – Maine, UNH and Binghamton. BUT, then you have their win in Vermont where they put up 93 points and that's all the reminder you need to stay focused.

I love the kid Jahad Thomas – a physical kid who somehow defends bigs on the block and leads the team in points, rebounds and assists. He's got a nice left and gave Warney fits. He had 19 and 6 in that game, and matched a career high against Hartford on Wednesday.

We've been blessed with some brawn underneath with Jameel and Rayshaun. UML doesn't have the kind of size underneath to keep from being pushed around and zero presence at the rim.

Cannot imagine the wolves tripping up in this game (or, frankly, any of the upcoming four leading to a rematch with UA), but UML has displayed moments when they get hot and take down bigger foes. Thomas is a tough presence down low and gives the impression he can handle both Warney and McGrew at the same time. At clearly 6'2" (from seeing him here and noting he is MUCH shorter than our bigs), he's a brute.

Add to that the winter doldrums (which it appeared SBU suffered from in the first half last night against Bing)....

Good luck SBU!

its always good to beat a conference opponent by 20.  but here's what i saw- UML hung in the entire first half.  we broke it open by almost 25 in the beginning of the second half.  then we started taking unnecessary 3s and missing most of them.  UML hit a few and went on an 11 point run, cutting the lead.  we still had a lead, but you have to look at this strategy and question it.

thrower got a lot of minutes today.  and sturdy continues to improve on the floor.  i think woody shot well again.  walker continues to be a high intensity spark plug for us.  GO SB

Solid win, all 5 starters hit double figures

UML is not a bad team- Duquette has them competitive

Woodhouse is really becoming better with each game. His 3PT shooting will be an asset going forward this year.
