Sexual Assault at America East Conference School
« on: April 30, 2020, 12:09:30 pm »
Just f*cking awful. What the f*ck is wrong with people?

From espn.com:
After a female swimmer at the America East Conference school reported in October 2019 to Title IX officials that she was **** by a male basketball player, she was told by an athletics employee that an informal Title IX process could not lead to her alleged perpetrator being suspended because it "'wouldn't be fair to other players' and it 'would have a negative impact on the community' who attended games expecting to see [him] play."

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/29114869/ncaa-sued-7-women-failure-protect-alleged-sexual-assaults

Only UVM, UNH, Maine, Binghamton, UMBC and Stony Brook have women's swimming.

So, there's a 20% chance the **** happen at Stony brook. The basketball players transferred. Hmmm. Now that's interesting

we didnt have swimming back until a few years ago... anyone know the calculation on this one?

i know we've had swimming back over oct 2019 however i meant to say whether the incident occurred before that or if that's merely when it was revealed.

lawsuit: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/6880184-Roedelvncaacomplaint.html

the plaintiff is a citizen of vermont.  a junior this year, in her second year of eligibility.

2019 women's S&D roster: https://stonybrookathletics.com/sports/womens-swimming-and-diving/roster

the unnamed AE school also has a men's hockey team (ambiguous?).

he could “put his eyes on her.” She was told to meet with him during half time at a hockey
game.

teams were “not great,” the women’s swim team “wouldn’t be at” AECS without them.

Vermont fans are panicking because the language used is similar to their marketing

Looks like this is a Vermont player. The details will come to light eventually. I don't think we had rebooted our swimming program recently enough for this to be against us

Michigan State though... I must say Stanley will be earning his pay to have to guide the school through this mess AGAIN. There were some serious screw ups at that school over the years. Double whammy if by some unfortunate set of circumstances the AE school happened to be SBU.

The unnamed America East school is not a defendant in the lawsuit at this time.

After examining Jane Doe 3's claims in the lawsuit, Channel Three Sports concluded that one of three schools in the America East Conference is the unnamed school in the lawsuit: Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

WCAX wanted to know if the University of Vermont is the America East school mentioned in the lawsuit. UVM Director of Athletics Jeff Schulman issued a statement, saying he's aware of the suit but that " ... no America East school would be able to comment on the specifics of the case, both out of respect for those involved and because it involves private student information."

https://www.wcax.com/content/sports/An-America-East-student-athlete-a-citizen-of-Vermont-sues-the-NCAA.html

just wanted to point out- the schools are not being sued; the NCAA is.  and the complaint is they did nothing (negligence?) and perhaps inflicted distress by not acting.

also consider that the above is merely a news outlet's interpretation.

just an hour and a half ago: https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/sports/2020/05/13/america-east-conference-swimmer-ncaa-lawsuit-mishandling-sexual-assaults-university-vermont-uvm/3121731001/

The complaint lists the swimmer as “Plaintiff Jane Doe 3” or “JD3” and a “citizen of the State of Vermont.” However, Michigan-based lawyer Karen Truszkowski, one of the attorneys for the plaintiffs, told the Burlington Free Press on May 1 that the Vermont designation was an oversight in the filing and “Jane Doe 3” is a citizen of New York.

Ah ****.... hopefully it's UAlbany and not us. That's the kind of sad sh*t that would happen at that school.

See below the dates of events.  Stony Brook has a hockey team.
http://stonybrookhockey.com/schedule/

The men's hockey team had no home games between Nov 15 and Nov 18.  Could be a clue that it's not SBU.  UAlbany had home games on Nov 15 and Nov 16.

382.

On November 15, 2019, AECS Title IX office staff notified JD3 that she could either
record a video victim impact statement or write a statement to be read to JRL by a proxy.

383.

No explanation was provided to JD3 as to why she could no longer read her victim impact
statement directly to JRL via an online streaming service.

384.

Later that day, JD3 was told that she needed to meet with AECS’s Director of Athletics so
he could “put his eyes on her.” She was told to meet with him during half time at a hockey
game.

385.

JD3’s impression of the meeting was that AECS’s Director of Athletics did not care about
her, but only wanted to make sure she had not changed her mind about proceeding with
informal resolution of her Title IX complaint against JRL.

386.

On November 18, 2019, AECS sent JD3 an agreement to sign indicating that she was
committing to informal resolution.

We don’t even have D1 Hockey, I doubt Heilbron would ever go to a hockey game for club.

I think the clarification that she is a resident of NY is an indication that she goes to school in Vermont.  That error and correction are basically the smoking gun that points right to Burlington.
