As much as I would like this to have ripple effects to us, I doubt it. UConn hated being in the AAC and I don’t know if they’ll even look for a replacement. If they do, they might take an A10 school, opening up a spot there, but even then that’s not likely going to be us.

Wright Forman from Hofstra was selected in the 2nd round of the NBA draft from the Utah Jazz. That would be the 12th Hofstra player to get drafted from Hoftsra since 1994. I think that is amazing. Forman is going to do really well in the NBA!

Stony Brook went D1 in 1999, I believe and they have zero athletes drafted so far.

What is it with this university that shuns away great players. Not just BB but Football and some other sports as well. Baseball, W lax and lately, W volleyball is doing well, but the sports that the majority of the county watch the most is Football and Basketball and that is where the problem lies. Is it because it is a state school? Maybe because its a predominately a medical school? I really dont know what it is. Just curious..

easy question- student life.

There are going to be ripple effects. Huge ones. This is earth-shattering news honestly because now pandora's box of realignment just opened up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't one of the tenets of the reorganization of the Big East several years ago that all the members were to be church chartered schools?  I think that's why schools like Butler, Marquette, Creighton, Xavier and DePaul ended up joining, and others, such as UConn, Pitt and Miami ended up leaving in the first place!!  Is this a sign of a failed experiment on the part of the NCAA?  It seems odd that UConn would be the only non-church affiliated school in the conference, don't you think?

Yes agree sbugold, somewhat odd, but maybe there was an exit clause that allowed them to come back due to its original affiliation within X # of years of exit. More likely, the prestige and $ of having them back, overrides all.  Or maybe they are “converting” :)
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

i think someone wrote here a few years ago (when the last realignment craze calmed down) that another was coming around 2020.  perhaps it was about contracts being up, all that.

There's nothing in the conference charter about that, but the move was largely driven by the Catholic schools in the old Big East to get away from the FBS football schools at the time. Once WVU, Syracuse, and Pitt all left, and schools like ECU and Tulane were invited to replace them, the Catholic 7 saw no reason in sticking around and formed the new (current) Big East. UConn has loads of history with those Catholic schools and is widely considered to be the only public school they'd allow in the conference due in part to their basketball success and shared history/rivalries with current members.

Yep. I anticipated all of this coming a few more years down the road though and the Big 12 starting it with either Texas and/or Oklahoma leaving. UConn likely wasn't happy with the AAC's new TV deal as they had their own deal with SNY that paid them a fair amount of cash. The New AAC deal would have put all of that content on ESPN+ and UConn wasn't having any of that, so as a result they've made a move that has been rumored for a while and left the AAC for the Big East. Their football will likely wind up as an independent. Though it's possible the MAC or CUSA could take them as a FB only affiliate.

I, too, don’t think there was a religious angle to it. Otherwise the so called Catholic 7s wouldn’t invite Butler which is a non-religious institution. The goal was to recruit basketball only schools with dedication to that sport only... therefore added Butler, Xavier and Creighton. Now added UConn who eventually realized what’s important and priority to them.

Im surprised    this is not yet posted on the website . It was broad cast last evening Thursday on News Channel 12 . The mens team is going to Europe for  I think they said  for two weeks to play 3 games in France and 3 games in Spain,  They didnt mention the dates just August  and made mention that this is SBU's third European tour . Several of the players were interviewed  including Lattimer.  Everyone seemed pretty excited .

Quote from SH. Any idea what he is talking about!

"On the train back from NYC... the meeting that we had this morning resulted in an important partnership for
@SBAthletics
. The view alone would have been worth it, but we came away with something much more. Details coming soon".

First thing I can think of is maybe some future games at MSG? A big donation? Something to that effect. A game or two a year at MSG against a big time opponent would be a great thing for SBU.
