Hey all, I'm working on a story for seawolvesnation.com about basketball season tickets. Would anyone mind if I used quotes from this thread for the piece? If you don't want to be included, please just let me know. I won't use names, just forum handles. As a general rule, I won't use comments made on the forums without first making sure y'all are comfortable with it.

Additionally, if anyone wants to talk to me in greater depth about this, please feel free to ping me directly.

For the record, this will be my first year as a basketball season ticket holder now that I'm no longer a student, and I too found the prices to be higher than expected.

Yes Seawolvesnation. You can use my "Quotes". Feel free to fix some of my spelling errors, too..... I actually voiced my concern today to Christina from SB Tickets and she was actually surprised that I and some people from the Forum feels the Ticket prices were excessive.. She also said last year they had about 700 season ticket holders and as of today they are at 1000. She also said SBA would like to have between 1200 to 1500 STH for this year and that would match their Goal.....If that helps you!!!!

As a student I am thankful that I get in free of charge! Friends at other schools have to pay so I consider myself very lucky!

The football parking thing really doesn't bother me.  A large number of people (my group included) park in the train-station lot to do our tailgating.  Honestly, I prefer it to being right next to the stadium (never have to deal with security, and the people in our area are all pretty relaxed).

As for hoops, we really have to look at comparable pricing.  Bing charges $185, Albany $175, Vermont $196, UMBC is $70 (it's only 12 games, but you have to watch the Retrievers play 12 times.  Then again, you get to watch their dance team 12 times...)

Looking at what other schools charge, $240 really isn't unreasonable. That being said, we're paying a higher price, we should be expecting a better product.  If things don't improve, the price will either need to reduce, or expect a community backlash.

Hey guys, want to add my .02 on this issue

I'm a football and basketball season ticket holder and will be for next year as well. I will say up front that, for me, watching games at Pritchard was painful. I'm 6'1 and my knees would usually be in the back of the unfortunate soul sitting in front of me. Getting up and around was not easy as well as I'd step all over people. I loved the gameday environment at Pritchard but it still felt like my high school gym. Honestly, I think the price points are pretty close to where they need to be- I'm fine with paying for the improved quality. The new gym is really gonna be top notch.

The big caveat I have is that the team really needs to make it to the NCAA tourney in the next couple of years- attendance will be fine initially at this arena but we need to have an entertaining product. That means no more boring home games against Haverfords and other lower level teams. When I was a student, I remember how awesome it was when we hosted Villanova! There are enough teams in the tri-state area that we can schedule so many teams from the D1 pool. For example, the St. Francis game this year was amongst the best games all year. On a side note, I am excited that the student section will be able to accomodate more folks- late this year, I saw students being forced to stand in the barricades next to the student section because the student section was full. Also, there was the wonderful limitation on students at the AE championship too.

Ultimately, if the team wins and plays exciting basketball, we'll get decent attendance. I don't think we'll come close to selling out unless its late season games or AE playoff games. I think the 4k capacity will be a capacity that will be utilized for concerts and what not. I'd love to see the new arena packed for basketball games but we're gonna need some serious community turnout for that to happen.

When it comes to parking, I'm still debating what to do about it- for some games, it was a huge pain in the butt to get parking.

UGHHH. Really Lax. I sat really close to the visitors bench last year and it was horrible. Why would you want to sit there? Just asking.... I go on Monday at 12:15

I picked these seats because it's third row from the floor, one of the seats on the aisle towards center court, which is 4 feet away from the VIP Lounge seats. Also, unlike Pritchard gym, the seats will be made up of all Stony Brook fans. The visitor fans seats in the new arena are now reserved in the corner. Good luck and let us know your seat location on Monday night.

That is awesome that they are sticking the away fans in the corner.  It will stink when SB fans get treated the same way at visiting venues.

I went today. section 111, row B, seats 7 8 9... Still some really good seats left for the taking. Christine said 1,350 will be taken by Friday, not to mention fans have all summer to buy season tickets. I say this was a success, now lets win some games and get to the NCAA!!!
