2015-16 Stony Brook Basketball Season
« on: April 09, 2015, 01:53:21 am »
Counting Lucas Woodhouse it looks like SBU will have three PGs but no legitimate SGs going into the season-

1) Can either Kam Mitchell and/or Ryan Burnett step in as a reliable scoring option(s) at the SG position?
2) Who will start at the point? (It's my understanding that Woodhouse is a very efficient passer, which is precisely what SBU needs, given IMHO its poor execution in the half court offense last year).
3) Is it possible for the team to improve its overall FG %? If you discount Warney's numbers last year, the rest of the team shot 38% from the field. That would have ranked the team 340th in DI.
4) Can we expect anything from Jacub Petras? It looks like he has a nice shot from 10 feet and in, but he looked lost on defense and seemed a step slow.
5) Is there a chance to land a recruit that could contribute this season?

I don't know what the spring challenge is, but nonetheless to hear that Kam had the top male score is surprising.

Has anyone seen these Longwood highlights from last year? Looks more like Woodhouse's And1 mixtape.

Woodhouse's numbers for his last year at Longwood are promising- 41% from the field, 37% from three and 80% from the line with an assist to TO ratio of better than 2:1. Combined with the addition of Walker, the team's "non-Warney" FG% is bound to improve a few notches in 2015.

I was at the baseball game this past Saturday and saw our newest recruit Jonah the kid from England is already on campus. He was decked out  in everything red so  glad he is on board. My expectations are high for next season with our veterans and the new faces including Walker we should be pretty good . I'm going to the cocktail party at Danfords on the 19th  to hear our 5 year plan  for athletics . I'm curious  about just everything including scheduling for both hoops and football. I know they wont  divulge any major secrets so I expect  we will be in the CAA and the AE  at least 5 more years .  But  future schedules could be a hot topic.
For hoops I expect an AE  Conference Title and a chance to dance this  team has to do it so how some way . No more bridesmaid this time I want us to be the bride. Also any new or expanded facilities could be a topic that night. Or maybe adding a new team from the club ranks . Should be fun.

I'm trying to make plans to get to Danford's for the 19th. If I can't make it, please report back let us know what they talk about!

Is the English recruit's name Jonah? I thought it was Akwasi Yeboah.

I will be at Danfords on the 19th, also. Curious to hear what they have to say about the expansion and renovation of Lavalle stadium and building of a practise facility. Where will the money come from considering Cuomo took 22 Million away!!!

Hammer - don't be surprised if they ask you for a $22 million donation on the 19th.
By the way, the AD had been here for almost a year - has he done anything noteworthy during his time here?

Heilbron sold the naming rights to Stony Brook's arena for $7 million. That's two and half times more than what Albany got for their arena in 2006. He got stadium expansion and the indoor practice facility on the NYS spending bill. Yes it got vetoed, but he obviously sold our senior administration and local representatives on the idea. We don't know what donations to athletics over the last year have been, but that's supposedly his biggest strength. Our teams have had a disappointing year, but these are all Fiore's coaches and Heilbron wasn't going to have any effect on this years teams.

I'm pretty thrilled thus far.

Our new AD has added new  corporate sponsors   this  season as we saw at many ceremonies  before home games this season.  That hopefully is solid money  going forward.  As I said I don't expect any earth breaking announcements  on the 19th something they probably cant do anyway . I do hope we hear about  new facilities , tougher schedules and maybe a new team or  two.   So far Im happy  with our new AD's approach and performance .  I expect at some point  to see new coaches being announced  down the road  in a few years .  Im really curious where  their plan takes us in 5 years.

Hopefully he will be 100%  come November.  Looking forward  to their European trip last time they went overseas  they went 5-1 .  Still curious  about our OOC  schedule.

offer to aj wilson https://twitter.com/GoatEnterprises/status/620407496222605313/photo/1

offer to ray jerome https://twitter.com/RayJerome1

Yes, I saw these, as well as others.  It looks like Coach P. and his staff are being very aggressive re: recruiting for next season.  It looks to me like there are about 20 offers out there already, in addition to the one commitment thus far (Mike Almonacy).  The team will have its work cut out for it, since they'll be losing Warney, Puriefoy and McGrew!!  But, at least it looks like they're really going after it.  There are some real good talents represented in these offers, from what I've seen.
