No Seawolfemeritus...no expectations to make the final four (although mid-majors like George Mason, Butler, and Virginia Commonwealth have done it). Just to play and earn respect. Unfortunately, that was not achieved last night.

I tend to agree with what has already been posted.  I did think SB started the game prepared to play and executed well off the jump.  As the game wore on IU was just able to get the types of shots they want.    I was surprised at that given the defensive reputation.  As an IU fan I was pleased with some things but still have a couple concerns.  But either way, it is just 1 game, don't get too down on your team yet (as I'm not going to start having visions of conference titles and sweet 16's).

I hope the poster that made the trip to Btown enjoyed it.

Thank you to all for welcoming me to the board this week.  I wish Stony Brook nothing but success this year.  I hope to check back again at some point later in the season for an update.

More to chew on:  As I mentioned earlier, SB lost to a better, bigger/stronger more athletic opponent.  However, there were also positives you can take from the game.  Obviously the first 12 minutes showed that this team can play well at the highest level.  Consistently doing this is the challenge.  The bench is extremely deep, giving you 40 points.  Rouse, Jackson and Rapier all gave you something, and Coley/McAlister will give you more usually.  The key is getting the perimeter players off, and against that type of talent, it's tough.  Again I stress that running Dougher off the ball to get shots will help, although there's not really anyone to play the PG when that happens.  Jackson clearly can score, but he seems more comfortable looking for his shot than creating one for others.  Also, Joyner and Rapier are  clearly better posting up this season, and will find it easier in the conference.  Carter's mistake hurt; not expected from a Senior.  I wouldn't be surprised to find out he was retaliating for an earlier "love tap" from Zeller, but that's no excuse......I guess the 1 minute Mayo received says he is not redshirting, although I saw King on the bench out of uniform, so I guess he may be.

I'm not expecting anything more than a NCAA berth.. lol... Coming out from the America East I can't expect anymore from the Seawolves for now. If they get to the NCAA, we need to be real proud. Actually, all i truly care about it continuing to be competitive in the America East and consistently competing for the AE championship

No one should have NCAA second round or better aspirations yet. We building this team year by year. Lets take it easy and understand how it works. We as fans have to be happy with what we are currently accomplishing. This is a 12 year division I program playing with the Elites in front of a 16,000 away crowd. Even the lost is a positive because a few years ago we wouldn't even schedule teams in the top six conferences. Yes, I was a bit pissed yesterday because of the Carter foul but those things happen.

We as fans have to use this tough games as a way to measure our team against the top teams

We getting a new arena soon. We are improving little by little hoping that one day we can move to a better Conference. But right now, we have to worry about our conference and competing against them.

Go Seawolves

By the way, I am now a fan if for nothing else than your mascot.  I like unique mascots.  I looked up the origin and I think it is cool that you came up with something different.

'Hoosiers' has been confusing everyone for years, and we of course don't even have a mascot since a Hoosier is really just someone from Indiana.

Indiana looked great Friday, as most teams do when they shoot the ball like that.  If those shots aren't falling, they obviously don't look as good.  At best this year, they are a middle of the pack team in the conference; SB made them look a lot better with their defense.  The first 3/4 of the half Indiana was not nearly as impressive.  Remember, no team ever is as bad as they look when they lose, nor as good as they look when they they win.....!
The rest of the non-conference schedule should give you a much better idea of where you are.  There are a lot of "toss-up" games that either team can win; they will provide a much better assessment of your team.  Bracey is clearly still trying to find his place in the offense, and Brenton needs time to get his bearings.  Add into it that Lenny Hayes is starting from the beginning of the season for the first time, so it's no wonder that the bench (all experienced players from last year) production was ahead of the starters (Dougher had their best and most athletic defender on him; tough match up!).  After an easy win today, Tuesday's game @
Sacred Heart should give you a much better gauge on the team so far.  I'm sure when conference play rolls around, you will be right there with BU, UVM and UA for the top spot.  What the AE needs are some OOC wins.....from anybody!

Not sure who the idiot was that said Indiana was a middle of the pack team in their conference at best (oh wait, that was me!).....Watching Indiana beat Kentucky today has to make SB feel a bit better about their game on opening night.  Indiana is much better than people thought, and a loss to them, no matter the score, looks a lot better after today's win over the #1 team in the country.

Indiana beats Ohio State... This team is sick. That was a wonderful game to watch. Back and forth affair. First time they beat #1 and #2 in the AP poll in a single year

Indiana is a lot better than anyone knew this year.  I'm sure when your coach scheduled the game, he had no idea that they would be this good.  They looked really good yesterday, BUT, they still need to do something away from Assembly Hall.  Until they have a big win on the road, many of the national guys still won't give them the credit they deserve.  Let's see where they are in this week's rankings...

Last year, UCONN beat us to start the season and then won the national championship.

If Indiana does the same, we may have to start hanging "We prepared the 2010-11 national champ", "We prepared the 2011-12 national champ", etc
