Another pre-season ranking, that I agree with. I just don't see how this year's Seawolves team, even with the departures of Woodhouse and Nyama, gets out of top 4 as other pre-season rankings suggest. I think Yeboah and Sturdivant will be logging big and quality minutes. These two are ready to step up and to carry the team. Ochefu will compete for ROY. We may not be 2nd again but we won't be dropping out of top four. Vermont is for real. Albany is guard heavy. And every other team in AE has weaknesses and holes.

https://www.midmajormadness.com/2017/10/9/16219252/america-east-preseason-power-rankings-vermont-stony-brook-albany-2017-18

I think it's far more likely that Yeboah becomes the "team's star" than Ty – that's someone who just looked at the stats from last year and didn't see the team play (the writer, not you). Nice piece to the puzzle and important to our success but his production was minimal and minutes were in the teens in the latter half of last year. We're in trouble if he ends up as our leading scorer or even to "carry the team" like you said.

I think Ty will average more than 10 again. But he really needs to get more rebounds. Expect Yeboah to be our scoring leader. Just not sure who else will step up offensively... Probably UC and Saintel. Defense will be fine under Boals. Just not sure where the points will come from. Even then I think we are a top four team.

Ochefu is my sleeper.  Everyone seems to have forgotten him.

Stopped by the scrimmage today. Some impressions, all prefaced with “maybe I’m dead wrong” ...

- I really like McKenzie. He has that same calm demeanor and steady handle that Woodhouse had. He can get into the paint, knock down a floater, and he looks to have really good vision. The lead PG job is between him and Cornish; I’d give it to Mac because Cornish seemed a little turnover prone, although the latter is more apt to finish at the rack. No matter how it ends up, I expect Mac to be a factor early and to have four strong years.

- Two names left out of that discussion are Almonacy and Iroegbu. They barely barely brought the ball up the floor - fewer than 10 times in four quarters. I see Mike being more or less the same guy as UC at this point - some offense off the bench, some perimeter D, not a frontline ballhandler. I didn’t see any kind of big leap, although he clearly got stronger.

- Sekunda looked great. A lot of makes. Here’s to a full season of health. We need him.

- Yeboah looked slimmer. I thought he was Saintel when I was walked in and I’m surprised he’s got 25 pounds on him. I can’t say he made any kind of impression otherwise, but I think he’s the closest thing we have to a go-to guy.

- Garcia was present but not playing.

- WARNEY ALSO PRESENT BUT NOT PLAYING! And Kam and a few others. Kam needs new jeans.

- Predicted order of minutes for the freshmen: McKenzie, Olaniyi, Ochefu, Long. Could switch the middle two. Ochefu showed some things but needs some work (he’s a freshman after all). There were glimpses for sure. Physical specimen who will figure it out in time. One time he ran the floor, took the dish from Saintel in stride, put it up softly and scored and drew the foul. He even put up a couple threes and a 15 footer over Jake - none of them hit but he’s looking for those shots. Olaniyi looked most comfortable shooting threes - a few makes and a couple bad misses - but he’s a good sized kid, runs the floor, and had a couple nice finishes. He’s more polished than the two behind him and I think he will be a nice asset the next four years. I expect Long to see limited minutes. Shot’s a little awkward and he’s still figuring things out.

- Saw a little more aggressiveness on offense from Saintel. If he can get us 6-10 points, that’s a big help.

- Predicted starting lineup: McKenzie, Yeboah, Sekunda, Saintel, Sturdivant. Could see UC in for Sekunda.

Thank you for that; great analysis.   Surprised to hear about Almonacy, with all the hype about him being stronger and taking the lead in practices.  But seeing is certainly believing.

I just don’t see any urgency with him. UC played today like he was fighting for a roster spot. He obviously isn’t but I just mean he really gets after it. I don’t see that with Mike. I think he’s capable of a few double digit scoring games but he’s not playing the point and isn’t an ideal fit at the 2 - maybe passable in the AE. He was checked by Cornish a few times while handling it and could easily have been called for the offensive foul for using his off arm. Shots don’t come easily for him and it doesn’t seem like he's even looking for them.

Mind you, I thought he looked like a future star at last year's scrimmage. Like I said before, maybe I'm dead wrong. The whole thing's just weird.

Anyone going to that Stony Brook vs. Maryland at the NC? I'm excited. I don't want to miss that one

Very satisfied with the way SBU scheduled this year. A nice challenging OOC

Planning on making  the Maryland game.  Nice showcase for us on Long Island against a Big 10 Power , almost a home game .

In for Maryland. We were supposed to go to Great Wolf Lodge but instead chose the opener +$500

Tickets to the Maryland game are a little on the pricey side. Is there a way to get tickets through SB at a reduced rate?

Isn't the Maryland game at midnight, as part of that marathon round-the-clock NCAA thing?  Well past this old guy's bedtime......

Nope. 7pm tip on Friday 11/10.

And good news! The home opener against Brown on 11/22 has been moved from 2pm to 6pm. Glad they came to their senses.
