Welcome to the Wild Wild West
« on: October 13, 2020, 10:30:02 am »
It's coming, everybody. If you thought this year was bad, wait until this goes through. Anybody who has even a decent year for us could depart penalty-free. I have to think at least half the all-conference and all-freshman teams will leave for other opportunities.

I have to believe that if this was enacted immediately, there's a good chance we'd have lost Mo Gueye too.

thanks for sharing- while i largely agree- is there any angle where this actually helps us?

i think likely no, we'll just shuffle kids in and out faster, not worrying about development, or a cohesive locker room, etc.  the rich get richer here.  it's already been happening.

obviously good for the athletes but overall bad for the sport and the fan.
There are 29,413,039 corporations in America; but only one Chairman of the Board.

The only way around this is to compete for a better conference. The AE is the toilet bowl of all conferences. Move up to a real mid major conference like the A10 for BB, then then SB would be on the receiving side, not the losing side.

I agree completely. While this might suck for our program, we have no real right to keep a kid here if they have an opportunity elsewhere. Upgrading conferences truly is the only way around this for SBU.

All sights need to be set on the A10 in my opinion. It lets us keep football right where it currently is while being a giant step up otherwise.

I think there will be more transferring down too. Each school still only has 13 scholarships and no one wants to sit on the bench.

I wonder if the best teams and coaches will be the ones that can keep rosters stable. Kind of like how Villanova has been the best program of the last 10 years because kids stayed and learned the system.

I think the best programs will be unaffected. They'll have multiple players who leave for the NBA after a year or two. No change for them.

If high-major or mid-major kids don't get much burn after their freshman seasons, we may be a place for people to drop down too. The year wait might have been a deterrent before. I doubt that premier talent like Zed Key or Andre Curbelo would drop this far, but Policelli's a great example. This is a great spot for him.

Loyalty was pretty much shot anyway in terms of scholarships, but now it definitely is. If you want to stay, you gotta earn your keep – both sides.

Clearly, this will have a "the-rich-get-richer, and the poor-get-poorer" effect.  SBU clearly a loser in this environment.   Even a move to A-10 will not stop the bleeding.  Think about it; every kid will try to get in the best program possible, and it will become a feeding ground for the best conferences.   Great for the college athlete, horrible for the mid-majors.  The ascension of mid-majors in college basketball will officially be done.
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

Agreed. Mid majors for Basketball will be punished and the same for the FCS football programs. This was a horrible decision by the NCAA. I think it is all part of this diversity movement that came about this year. People need to stop being so afraid of others and get their heads out of their ass. Our nation is falling apart and snowflakes are taking over. Terrible...
