Game 15: SBU v. UMass Lowell
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:26:39 am »
This should be another double digit win, but I'm sure that's what BC thought when Lowell came in and won at their place. Granted, BC was without its leading scorer and rebounder (two different players) but still. Lowell also played UConn tough. That's enough to have my attention.

Still, Lowell has struggled on the glass and doesn't defend much. They've given up at least 75 points in every game but one this year and teams are shooting better than 48 percent from the floor, including almost 40 percent from three. That's bottom 10 in the country. I'm confident that we can outscore them if it's up and down or if Sekunda's getting wide open looks.

One plus for Lowell: they're shooting 37 percent from three themselves. If they get hot and knock them down with frequency against us, who knows. The kid Isaac White made 5 of 7 against BC, and the team hit 12 to hang with UConn.

Riverhawks proving be a non-threat. A million open shots.  These guys need to hit the weight room too.

Two reactions from a blowout game:

1. Good to see SBU efficiently put the game away. Even with UML hanging around down 10-12 points in the first half, there was never a doubt in this one.

2. Perhaps Pikiell is sticking solid with an 8-player rotation? Even in a blowout, not a sign of working those last guys in even for a few minutes, experimenting with player combos.

I'm always clamoring for the Mitchells and Petras of the world earlier than most head coaches. Even Donohoe. You're up 30 with five minutes left, give the kid some run. But the head coaches seem to be in lockstep with that. It's amazing how Roland, Kam and DeShaun played major, major minutes last year, and they're so marginalized now. Roland's the only one who's certain to play and even his minutes are cut in half.

It's amazing how Carson has rediscovered his range. There were a lot of open looks but he wasn't even knocking those down last year.

A real nice effort from Tyrell with 7 and 5. It was good to see him early in the game. It was an odd sub though. Two minutes in? After barely playing the game before? Weird.

The kid Jahad Thomas from UML can play for me any day. 6-2 and playing on the block on both ends. There were so many times when he used his body and the rim to get a shot off. You could tell that Jameel was shaking his head.

who knows what happens in practice during the week.  someone is sick, someone has a great day, bad day etc.   for all we know too it can be a matchup issue.  a gamble.  with that said, I agree with all.
