Anything less than two out of three from this weekend would be disappointing. All these games should be pretty close though.

On the surface, you might fear TAMCC for taking an SEC down to the wire in what's a traditionally difficult place to play for visitors. But Vanderbilt went winless in conference last year – even we did better against the SEC! – and they're supposed to be bottom of the barrel again. And then you see TAMCC's 33-point loss at Louisiana Tech and some peripherals – 39 turnovers in two games, only 21 forced, a heavy reliance on the three – and I think it's a good matchup for us.

They were projected to finish in the middle of the pack in a pretty lowly Southland Conference – good in some sports but not really basketball. They did have the Thomas Walkup years with Stephen F. Austin in the tournament, but last year ranked fourth to last in non-conference record at 30-89 (ahead of the MEAC 21-128, SWAC 12-100 and NEC 33-73). But TAMCC does have some tradition. They made four straight postseasons earlier this decade and even made it to the CIT championship game in 2017. One of the two stars on their CIT run transferred to Oregon and played meaningful minutes last year. The other ended up in the G League and is now playing professionally in Serbia.

Perhaps you dismissed the CIT success. I'll remind you that we have one postseason win all time.

Louisiana Tech absolutely pantsed TAMCC in the 2019 opener, so it's a good sign that they responded at Vandy with a solid effort. The big difference was a 4 for 17 night from three against Tech, and a 12 for 23 performance in the near upset of Vandy (TAMCC led at the half and was within two late). This is where they'll win or lose the game offensively. TAMCC has been outscored a combined 72-38 in the paint in the first two games, and the way we attack the hoop, I have to think that trend will continue.

Hoping to see TSM this weekend (no knowledge of his status). With three games in three days, I expect we will be using everybody, including Christie and Ochefu.

The opening line came in at Stony Brook -1.5. I'm inclined to think we pull this thing out.

Checkmate,

I haven't seen TSM at all.   How good is he and how does he compare to TPP?

Thanks in advance and thanks for the game notes.

When I saw him in the open practice, I thought he was ahead of TPP by an eyelash. He has a real nice stroke from the outside so I'd imagine that early on he can at the very least spot up for us and knock down shots. Like TPP, he seemed comfortable in the mid-range game too, and he got after it defensively on the perimeter.

Ok, thanks.  So from the sound and looks of it, the combo of TSM and TPP may be able to fill some of that void of Policelli not being able to play this year, given that Policelli has the rep of being a spot up shooter.

Getting the popcorn ready for the trio of games this weekend.  Agree with you that the entire team will get minutes this weekend.

Getting killed on the glass and jacking up threes. Turnovers keeping us in it. We need more action going to the basket.

Just abysmal shooting and choice of shots. Very annoying announcer not helping enjoyment of game.

Amazing with the brutal shooting that we are still in it.  Couple scores and stops and we could steal this one.

We have a propensity for missing layups. Horrible.

we didnt look good tonight.  but aTmCC got into some foul trouble (we couldnt really shoot FTs), giving up and-ones.

saw some nice moves from TSM.  rebounding wasnt great.  gueye with blocks again; otch with fouls again.  garcia with a strong finish to close out the win.  very few TOs tonight.

yes we miss layups.  im not even gonna bother with the shot selection and %...

Yes, we stole this one with a decent last 10 mins. The shot choices the 1st 30 mins, the missed FT’s, and all the missed layups were infuriating. We went nuts on the offensive boards in the last 10, but we needed to rebound better in the 1st 30 mins.

I saw a glimpse of last year in those last 5-10 minutes – guards just crashing the glass, closing out on shooters, etc. It left the kid Smith open to do work inside, but it felt like we played with a different intensity. 11 offensive boards in the second half compared to just four in the first.

Foreman and Garcia were fantastic down the stretch. They had the last six buckets for us and eight of the last nine.

31 big minutes for Gueye. It's such a luxury to have him available to back up Otchere. Another very frustrating effort for the latter, although on a couple I felt like his reputation preceded him, particularly the fourth one.

Watch the legs in the next couple days. Aside from Gueye, Geno didn't utilize the bench very much.  Everybody has to sleep fast to get ready for the next one.
