If you had to choose somebody not named Monmouth or Hampton to face, you might just have chosen A&T, which really labored to the finish line. They were losers of six of seven before Saturday's one-point home win over hapless Hampton. That stretch included two double-digit losses to Monmouth, and one of only two double-digit wins over a D-I opponent for the mighty Seawolves (the other coming at Monmouth). In their last eight, they shot under 40 percent in six of those games, and they were -55 on the glass. That included a 49-35 rebounding deficit against us, which helped us clinch a split of the season series, one we could very well have swept.

Nothing new on the scouting front. We'll want to slow it down to a snail's pace – see the 189-88 gap in fast break points this season in 24 D-I games on Statbroadcast. Meanwhile, A&T wants to get up and down and disrupt us with their guards. One thing to keep an eye on this week is the status of Woods, who missed the final 19 minutes and all of overtime against Hampton with what looked like a thigh injury. I suspect he'll play with the week off and the season on the line. He's ceded some of the scoring duties to Powell and Watson of late anyway. The tandem went for 36 against Hampton, and 40 against Delaware previously. Powell's averaged 17.5 a game over the last four.

It's an interesting game on the coaching front both sides, with Ford's seat seemingly hot, and A&T's coach, Philip Shumpert, still on the interim tag. I wonder whether it's a test drive for A&T or for Shumpert, whose coaching resume was pretty limited coming into the season. But I actually think A&T has to be reasonably pleased with its first season in CAA play. Furthermore, they have a commitment from three/four star Qua Brown, although he'll be coming back from an Achilles tear suffered in a postgame celebration back in December. He goes with Woods and Powell, another former four-star, to make a pretty formidable nucleus over the next few years. Of all the HBCUs, they and Hampton are playing in inarguably the best conference, which is a really good combo.

Here at SBU, we have a million guards on the books for next year and our lone commit is a 5-10 point guard ... who I'm actually excited about, but it's just such a weird fit. I expect upheaval. So many COVID guys have graduated all over the country, the transfer portal is so welcoming, it's been a bad year and we may or may not keep our coach (not sure which is worse).

The winner is lamb to the slaughter against Charleston. If we have the opportunity to see them again, I have a feeling it'd be closer in a neutral arena without the C of C home crowd. But that's a big big if.

Very winnable game. We split with them and really outplayed (and should have won) the first meeting at their place. Let’s win this one, and end season with a little hope.

P.S. Thanks for all of the great pre-game analyses again this year.
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

I don’t know what’s worse. Beating A&T to keep the season alive and give SH an excuse to keep Ford. Or just lose and end the torture and give SH an excuse to fire Ford..

I debated this too. I would like to think his fate doesn’t hinge on this game and, whatever it is, has already been decided.

Check out Bradley and Drake basketball on ESPN 2 right now.

This is Geno Ford record at Bradley.

Take note of the injured riddle season he had at his time at Bradley. Quite odd, don’t you think??

Ford's teams at Bradley never finished above 7th in the Missouri Valley Conference
(MVC), advancing to postseason play in the 2013
Collegelnsider.com Postseason
Tournament. He was relieved of his duties at the conclusion of
an injury-riddled 2014-15 season, where the Braves finished 9-24 overall and 3-15 in the MVC. Ford's record at Bradley was 46-86 overall and
19-53 in MVC play. [14]

I'm debating whether or not I should bother going to this one. Sure it's nearby, but it's a night game in the middle of the hood to go watch this sorry @$$ team. We'll see.

I do expect us despite being completely depleted from injuries to win this one though. A&T is about as awful as we are (can you believe such a thing is possible?).

You might want to bring a few security guards with you

Heard the arena is in a rough area. Think its truly 50/50 if this team survives past NC AT. I see almost no path to victory against Charleston. I think whatever happens Geno is back for next year to play out his contract the announcer on cbs said everyone back next year this team could be something that will be his pitch to Helibron. Don’t see admin making a move a year early.

"According to the attorney general's office, Congress Heights had the most incidents of violent gun crime in the city in 2020 and 2021, and 27 homicides with firearms within the past three years."

Not something you want to be number one in. At first, I was like "a WNBA team plays there; how bad could it be?!?" In the daytime? Maybe. But at night it'd be tough. Maybe find a parking garage in a safer neighborhood and take an Uber to the front steps.

This was an interesting read. Guy can write. https://www.theroot.com/i-m-black-middle-class-and-surrounded-by-crime-1801083566

Now's when the transfer portal gets interesting. I miss the old VC format though. It takes forever to load, and the players don't even have stars anymore I don't think. I don't need a souped-up anything; just give me the info straight.

That's what announcer said, but not so sure.  I guess they're all eligible for the extra Covid year (even Fitz?).  He said that Dalton Bolon of CoC was in his 7th year (he's 24).  Remember when we had everyone coming back in the Boals->Ford transition year?  One guy left (Garcia), and that started an avalanche of transfers.  I think we will just need to see how it all plays out with Geno and current rosters and transfers.

Would Geno come back without an extension? I guess it'd be everyone's last year: Policelli, TSM, Fitzmorris, Clarke, Noll, etc... so even if they play it out and the season sucks again its easy to start over with a full clean slate, since both the coach and all of our best players will be gone regardless. But it's just so unlikely to give a coach a lame duck year. It s always some secret extension BS like what happened with Priore this year.

Heilbron would be stupid enough to get swindled into giving Geno five more years in order for him to get one final shot with the current roster. But that would be so dumb.

Funny, enough I found that article the other day lol.

If the team were better I probably wouldn't care so much and go anyway, but given how bad we are.... yeah, not worth it.

i do agree that VC is harder to read in the new format.

ultimately, i dont even care about stars.  just find players that pass the ball and just like that, we will win.
