Game 3: vs. Farmingdale State, 11/11 7pm
« on: November 10, 2019, 11:13:49 pm »
FARMINGDALE STATE (0-0)
Last Game with SBU: Stony Brook 91, Farmingdale State 42 on 11/28/15; Warney 16 and 10 in 18 minutes; 11 players scored
Checkmate Unofficial Line: Stony Brook -51.5
Net Ranking: TBD
KenPom RPI: Stony Brook 231, Farmingdale State N/A
KenPom Prediction: N/A
Listen/Watch:
TV: TBD
Radio: N/A
Notables (2018-19 stats):
5-11/170 sr G Ryan Kennedy 11.2 ppg, .399 3-pt FG%
6-5/220 sr F Jermaine Fraser 6.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg, .589 FG%
5-7/155 sr G Anthony Miller 6.0 ppg, .394 3-pt FG%
6-5/220 sr F Troy Feeney 4.6 ppg, 4.7 rpg

So this is a game that everyone in the arena will have gone to begrudgingly. To have just four non-conference home games and this is one of them is disappointing.

But let's look on the bright side – we'll see some big dunks and big blocks, probably some crisp passing, and guys out there having a lot of fun. And yes, our first win of the season will be a good thing to take with us down to Texas.

I'm not going to get too much into breaking this one down. Farmingdale State's done a nice job in the Skyline Conference of late, going 20-8 a year ago and making the D-III NCAA tournament. But I can't imagine a worse situation to walk in to – no games to this point, the nucleus of last year's group gone, and a rangy Stony Brook team that's hungry for its first win.

I like to look at the local angle with these kinds of games. Hunter Schenkel (Sayville) transferred in after playing at the College of New Rochelle. Other Suffolk County kids include Can Oztimurlenk (Islip), Patrick Dellecave (Pat-Med), Josh Pismeny (Deer Park), and freshman Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai). They didn't get a lot of burn last year but may take on more meaningful time with the 2019 class having moved on.

Let's just work out some kinks and get out of this thing healthy and ready to go for three games in three days in Texas.

Best thing I’ve seen tonight is Stephenson without the walking boot and jumping off the bench at the first timeout. I look forward to seeing him out there soon. Maybe this weekend?

Not gonna lie, I have no interest in watching this one lol. I just hope our guys play well and build some confidence. If we hit triple digits then that's a nice bonus and a great opportunity to get the bench guys minutes.

TPP looks good so far- hard to gauge though against a DIII opponent that hasnt played yet and is undersized.

at 10min in and we are on pace to take 50 threes and surrender 80 points.  in the first 13 minutes foreman attempted 8 threes (he did hit 2), zero two pointers.

is this really what we need to beat the skyline conference champions?

(sorry i know i'm salty tonight) ::)

the good- ola has come alive suddenly.  o-boards (9-0!).  dunks.  free throws.  latimer.

Missed this one; but I'll catch replay on ESPN3 tomorrow.  Stat lines don't look overwhelmingly great, but we won by 50+, as we should have.
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

My biggest takeaway from the game is that TPP very much looks the part. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's Farmingdale State. But in the two games I've seen, he just seems under control, never sped up, never frantic, multi-faceted offensively – I like him.

Biggest negative? Christie. The 4 and 4 in eight minutes looks like a decent night, but he was pushed around by smaller guys – tied up, boxed out, etc. I don't know how he ended up with zero turnovers. It wasn't a great night. Chef is clearly ahead of him. It still feels like we're a little thin – hopefully TSM is back out there soon. One injury to a core guy and it feels like we'd have no bench firepower to speak of. Garcia and Olaniyi are both over 35 minutes a night in our two D-I games.

The offense still lacks fluidity. And I still think we're a gear behind where we were last year when we crashed the glass, hit the floor for loose balls, and gave teams hell on the perimeter.

I don't love Olaniyi's bow-and-arrow three-point celebration. Maybe it means something to him – it costs him at least a second getting back on defense. As long as they go in, I guess.

Off to Texas. Let's go get at least two.

Kind of surprised Christie is still on the team tell you the truth. He's big at 7' which is great on paper, but apparently that's all he has.....
