Nothing about this series has been pretty of late. I mean, the one up in Durham last month was flat-out ghastly, both teams shooting 35 percent, missing a million free throws (21 for 41 combined) and squandering opportunities. We had the game in our hands late, but bricks and turnovers cost us. The story of the season really.
Last four games in the series: them 53-51, us 64-61, us 59-56, us 59-58. All close ones. I suspect we'll see the same on Sunday. New Hampshire has a way of mucking it up by getting on the glass and to the line.
One guy not mentioned above is the kid Armstrong (actually, he's 23), who I feel like was pegged to be the third guy for them but never could be consistent. He's gone the way of Sturdivant, with his minutes being limited in favor of guys like Hopkins, Ogwuche and Elijah Jordan. Armstrong played just three minutes against Vermont.
Herrion spreads it out pretty well, with Leissner coming in at 35 minutes per game, and six others over 20.
What's interesting is that you look at their shot totals and you have Leissner at 372 for a good reason, then Camara at 200 and Hopkins one back at 199 despite playing 100 fewer minutes. I bring it up because he's shooting a brutal 33 percent from the floor and 29 percent from three. Yuck.
If we win, I
believe we overtake UNH for the 5 seed in the AE tournament by virtue of our win over Hartford; UNH has the far easier schedule to end the year so I think they'd take it back. But I don't think anyone's getting too worked up about whether we're the 5 or the 6. But it's interesting that you're either looking at facing the old guard (Albany/Vermont) or the new kids on the block (Hartford/UMBC). I think I'd rather go with the latter, but either way, I'm not very optimistic.
