it has.  back to the basket and sky/baby hooks are no longer.  kids want to make highlight reels, get rich quick on 3s.  some even take what is a long NBA three.

it wasnt so much an issue when warney grabbed the boards and provided a second chance 5x per game.

What I find strange is how the numbers for our three best shooters have fallen off a cliff since we started conference play.

Non-conference
Latimer: 32 for 74 (.432)
Garcia: 17 for 42 (.405)
Yeboah: 30 for 85 (.353)

Conference
Latimer: 20 for 63 (.317)
Garcia: 4 for 27 (.148)
Yeboah: 20 for 82 (.247)

As a team, we shot 36 percent from three in OOC games, and are a conference-worst 28 percent since.

You still need to space the floor and knock down these shots, but this downward trend is discouraging. It's a miracle we're 9-3.

Wow, those are startling stats.  Yeboah has not been right shooting since the injury (except for last night), maybe with Garcia it's law of averages, and Latimer's still a frosh, so I'll cut him some slack.  Nonetheless, very telling stats.   How of many of those 9 wins though, could have easily been losses; at least 4 of them.

BTW, I watched the replay on ESPN+ this morning.  That 2nd reset of the 10 second backcourt clock was due to a tie-up (possession arrow to UA), and then Brown took a subsequent TO.  I thought the reffing was erratic the whole game, but ultimately it was the FT shooting - at one point we missed 6 in a row - that did us in.  Boals could have played it better down the stretch, knowing that UA had 2 TO's in their arsenal.

This completely. In addition to this though, we've had no offensive flow at all during conference play and seem to struggle simply getting to the rim. Virtually every team we play appears to have an easier time scoring in the paint than we do, and that's with big Jeff in there blocking everything. It just looks so easy for teams to score on us, but us scoring on them is like pulling teeth. Probably the most annoying thing about this team this season.

I actually thought we played one of our better offensive games yesterday. It's just that their shots went down and ours didn't. The last two games, the opposition has rained threes on us, and we're lucky to have gotten a split.

Last year, it felt like the team was a little better than their record indicated, and was capable of beating any team in the conference (with a puncher's chance against Vermont).

This year, it seems like the team is not quite as good as their record indicates, and is capable of losing to any team in the conference (with a puncher's chance against Vermont).

That said it seems like the program is moving in the right direction, and I would not be surprised if the current Freshman class makes at least one trip to the NCAA tournament.

I'd say this is accurate. I think the AE really just punched us in the teeth though. After that OOC schedule, I had dreams of receiving votes in the AP, being ranked, etc. Now, we still have all of our goals in front of us, but we'll really need to execute. As good as they are, I'm sure Vermont would rather not see us at our best. That's for sure.

If Lamb wasn't graduating, I'd say we'd be the easy favorite to win the AE next year, but next year will probably look at lot like this year. Tough for getting to the tournament, but fun basketball in conference. Expect Albany, Bing, and others to be better next year also. If we can get a solid PG in here, we'll be great next year. Heilbron should schedule up like we did in 2017-18.

Some fans overreacted to wins against Norfolk State and losses to Holy Cross and Brown. 😂😂😂. Also, this fan base thinks we have depth on the team - that one gets me every time.

Well, we had one open scholly for next season, and we have one commitment to fill it (Tyler Stephenson-Moore of LuHi).  He's a really good get, I think, for a number of reasons--not the least of which is that he's a local kid who may bring in some fans.  That said, however, he's not a PG, which we desperately need.  So, I'm sure hoping that Makale Foreman is as good as Coach B. thinks, or that someone on the current roster is capable of stepping up.

The other possibility, of course, is that a roster spot opens up with a transfer out.  SBU has a number of really good PG offers out there for net season, but it will take a defection from the current ranks to enable that option.  Any ideas or hints?

I don't think SB has depth the way I think the 76'ers have depth, but relative to the AE, I'm happy with Garcia, Moor, and (yes) MacKenzie off the bench. Ochefu too, but I have no idea what happened to him this year and why he's not part of the rotation.

This comment makes no sense. We've got eight, arguably nine guys who can play ball and contribute to a winning effort. Seven of those in a significant manner. To say we don't have depth is frankly ridiculous. Our depth has won us games. Garcia in particular has come up huge for us this year. We're lucky to have him coming off the bench.

There could be several who might walk at end of season, opening up roster spots:

- Akwasi could go pro - I hope not, but probably a better than even chance, since he's already 22.  He'll make 1st team this year easy, but he's got Lamb back next year (assuming he returns) standing in the way of POY, so now may be the time for him;

- Ochefu - 2nd year, and he's logging fewer minutes than as a freshman, it seems.  I thought he showed a lot of improvement over freshman year in OOC games, but for some reason, he's the forgotten man.  When he sees action, he's rusty as hell.  He can't be happy that he's behind Christie on the depth chart;

- Players who aren't seeing PT this year, could all walk, ala Almonte.  You only have 4 years to play and wouldn't you rather be a player in DII, than be a bench warmer in DI, although forfeiting a full ride is at issue.  My candidates here would be Ceesay, Christie, Long, and Aubry.  Long started getting some minutes, but has recently totally dropped out of the rotation, so he'd be my leading candidate in this group.

Yes, we still need a natural point guard next year to fill the void of Cornish, and at least share the duties with Mac.

Yeah, totally agree.  Like UVM, our team has quite a bit of depth.  At least 7 deep, and could argue 9, if you include Long and Chef.  Compare that to Hartford - that all-Senior starting team, who often has trouble finishing games well, due to lack of depth.
