We can say that we're still jockeying for position, but realistically, we're looking at a tough first-round road test no matter what unfolds over the last couple weeks. We're effectively three games back of Albany with four to play, and it would take an incredible collapse from Hartford to fall all the way back to five, not to mention a surge of momentum for us.
Hopefully, though, we're trying to turn a corner here, and to be playing our best basketball going into March. Granted, a home win over Lowell and squeaker at Maine aren't exactly these momentous confidence boosts, but we'll take anything at this point.
Binghamton's now a game and a half back of eighth-place Maine for the final conference tournament spot, AND Maine swept the season series. So it's tough row to hoe right now for BU. However, if it has any designs on sneaking in, they're going to need this one.
I'm a little surprised by how poorly Bingo has fared this year. Bruce is a nice guy in the middle, Rodriguez is a 1,000 point scorer, and Show is capable of some big nights (although I think he's such a gunner). A little wild card who has entered the fray is the kid Stewart, who barely saw the floor against us the first time, but has since had a stretch of three straight double-digit nights, and a fourth game where he went for 9 points. And then there's another freshman, Andre Odero, who went for 14 in their last outing against UMBC, hoisting 13 shots in a season-high 25 minutes.
So it seems like BU is trying to figure some things out as well, and that includes a youth movement akin to ours with Olaniyi, Ochefu and McKenzie.
How about Bingo's most recent loss to Maine – 13 for
40 from three. 40 of their 71 shots from deep. That is something.
I worry about this one. BU didn't play well against us, but in the times I've seen them otherwise, they've looked all right, in particular when they absolutely took it to Albany early in the conference season.
