It's a busy stretch – three games in six days, and four in nine. The way we're going, it feels like UMBC will be another victim, but they played us tougher than any conference opponent aside from Albany. Lyles is the reigning AE Player of the Week and leads the conference in scoring at more than 25 a game. He'd be ranked in the top five nationwide if he'd played enough games – only 14 this year due to transfer rules (he started at VCU).
In our first meeting, we jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead but had that lead cut to five before pulling away. Lyles had 17 of his game-high 24 in the second half to keep it close. If you recall, our leading scorer in that game was a guy who's been very quiet lately – Sekunda, who had 21 to go with 20 apiece from Warney and McGrew. Since then, Sekunda's minutes have been down, with that trend continuing Monday with his 11-minute, zero-point night – his second straight game where he was held scoreless. I liked seeing him put the ball on the floor and distributing tonight though.
We have handled the glass pretty well in conference this season, but UMBC actually held its own here, trailing in that column only 36-34.
