Elijah was on pace for one of the best statistical seasons in SBU history. I feel sick.

Despite my comment earlier in thread about not easily seeing another win this season, here on the day after there is the fact (despite all from yesterday and what feels like an alarming trend downward recently) the team is still sitting in second place with 16 wins on the year. At least 7 games left (6 reg season and at least 1 AE tournament). Probably a better chance they win 4 out of those 7 vs 0 out of those 7, which would put them at 20 wins for the season...or the general mark of a "good year" in D1 basketball. But, we'll see.

Dark days ahead? Maybe, or from where I sit feels more like "more of the same" days ahead. Feels more to me like SBU men's basketball (can't speak for the other sports) has been in a holding pattern for quite a while...10+ years? 17-20ish wins, typically always 2nd/3rd fiddle to UVM/UA, that feels like what they are despite new arena and talk and week-by-week buzz. And I have no idea what might be the key (if there is one) to breaking out of that "mostly good" trend and into the UVMish trend of always being the front-runner and team to beat. Keep doing the same and hope luck turns our way?

More immediately, hope the news about Olaniyi is better rather than worse. Not sure I'll be able to stomach the game report from Bing this week and, instead, maybe grab a ticket to the SBU women's game on Weds night for what might be some improved mental enjoyment....

Getting the hell out of this conference would do wonders, but ironically enough doing so is largely predicated on our basketball performance....

At least there's the women's team who is 23-1 on the year. I've been keeping an eye on the rankings and had Arkansas lost today plus a couple teams ahead of them lost, then maybe they could sneak into the poll. I have to think a borderline top 25 team and an AE champ should at least get a decent seed in the NCAA Women's tournament if it came to that,.

Arkansas did beat us by 30.

I actually wonder what would happen if we lost in the conference tournament. I feel like it would be tough to deny a two-loss team, but then again, our RPI is 77 now and would go down with a loss. The next highest RPI in the conference is Binghamton at 191.

If you are implying or insinuating that SB could get an invite to the NCAA with a 2 loss season, forget it. Even if SB had beaten Arkansas they still wouldn't get in with a 1 loss record.  The AE conference is arguably a lower major conference. The committee would never allow that to happen..

It's happened before. Hartford got an at-large bid in 2010 after going 16-0 in conference (27-4 overall) but losing to Vermont in the AE Tournament final.

Elijah has a high ankle sprain; no timetable for him coming back.  At least it's not a break or ACL:

High ankle sprain recovery typically 6 weeks to 3 months (I googled this), and much more severe than lower ankle sprain.  Every case is different, but prognosis based on avg stats is not good for a season return.

UGH!

The women’s team has to win out to get to the NCAA tourney. They have just one win over a top 150 team. That doesn’t cut it for an at-large bid.
