this is no surprise- we only attempted 16 threes; beat our arch rival by 8 (was up 13 with 2min left).

we normally take ~26/game.  look at our "decent" wins this year- NDST (21), manhattan (20), american (17), albany (16) [at VT we took 27].  heck look at our "good losses", UVa (21), yale (23).

now look at the losses that we arguably couldve won.  SHU (25), delaware (33), providence (31), hartford (30).

maybe 4man getting into foul trouble was a blessing?  instead of 9 he attempted 5.  the four games leading up to that?  forty four attempts.

and i say that with the understanding that not all threes are equal.  and that his % is solid.

why not do the data analytics.  everyone else is.

CoB, I really thought Albany was really challenging us around the arc all night, and that is why we had “so few” 3 attempts. It seemed like Makale just couldn’t get free for the 3, when he was on the floor. I thought Elijah and Garcia did an awesome job going to the hole, to counter their perimeter D, and I too, would like to see more of a 2/3 mix.

Seemed as if Garcia was automatic whenever he drove to the rim. Didn’t realize he had 20 pts until the end! I wonder if the de-emphasizing of the 3 last night had to do with the shooting performance at Hartford.

Its the old saying live by the 3 die by the 3 . We cant always rely on the 3 ball being there and good inside shooting is still the best way to score.  See what happens Wednesday against  Binghamton .

Last year’s game at Bing was a three fest. Latimer made so many shots that were close to halfcourt

"These days there’s such an emphasis on the three because it’s proven to be analytically correct. Now you look at a stat sheet after a game and the first thing you look at is the threes. If you made threes and the other team didn’t, you win. You don’t even look at the rebounds or the turnovers or how much transition D was involved. You don’t even care. That’s how much an impact the three-point shot has and it’s evidenced by how everybody plays.” – Gregg Popovich

Everything in moderation, guys. The bottom line is we're the best three-point shooting team in the conference by a wide margin. We shoot more. We make more. And it's not as though we aren't still attacking the rim, but I'll take a (wide) open three over a contested two most of the time. Just look at the numbers – 45th in the country in 3%, 262nd in 2%. You tell me where we have the edge on everyone else.

Yes, there will be nights when they don't go down, some individual attempts that you'd take back, but it's the way the game's going and we have the personnel to use it to our advantage. I pray that, when everything's on the line, we're on. And looking way down the line, cart completely in front of the horse, if we have ANY hope of winning a tournament game against a more athletic, more physical high-major team, we better be ready to shoot it!

Checkmate, certainly the game has gone through a change. All sports do. Baseball is all about the long-ball, and game strategies like bunting and hit-and-run are virtually non-existent. Football is much more of a wide open passing game rather than ground-and-pound. I guess we need to embrace these changes if the analytics support it. Hard to argue with Popovich (except maybe this season for him).
