gueye had a bad game stat-wise but his presence late in the game got FU those shot clock violations.  and then gueye CRUSHED it in OT- blocks, boards, passes, scores.  with foul trouble.

what i liked- JFR wanted the ball when we needed a score to tie, and got it done (a good sign).  greene rebounding everything.  7 total swats.  our penetration forced 24 fouls.  come from behind gutsy OT win!

the bad- FTs, poor shooting, a missed dunk.  no weak hand shooting is apparent.

GO SB!!!

Well, we stole one tonight, in an non-impressive game for both teams.  JRod was impressive, but I agree, I'd like to see him run the offense more.  Static O, very limited ball movement, and we don't have any particular dynamic scorers.  Greene played well, Sayles showed some signs, and Mo had a fire lit under him, after he committed his 4th foul.  If this team is going to win any games in the AE, the free throwing shooting MUST improve.  Athletically, we are a giant notch (or 2) from last year's team.  Not sure if he was hurt or not feeling well, but Policelli looks slower than molasses.  Hoping if/when TSM gets back, that we can add some athletic umph to the offense.  St. Johns by 30.

agreed on that- we don't have the athletes we once did and it shows.

like game 1, at times we were a little out of control with the ball but that'll come with time.

ok here's what im thinking after only 2 games- half kidding- but switch greene and the policeman; put greene on wing or down low, policeman at 2 to shoot.  add habwe when we want to play bigger.  maybe even gueye off the bench (whether due to foul trouble, bad decisions, if he's having a bad night).  diallo can be a nice 6 man for us.

I think the Policeman's strength is shooting, so I agree.  I was watching him all night, and he did little to get open for a shot.  Again, maybe (hopefully) just an off night - I barely saw any of game 1 and his shooting effort there.  Mo needs to go to the hole more like he did late in the game.  He can be such a force; he just has to realize that he doesn't have to be The Man every time down.  Looks like JRod is gonna get 35 a game, and McKenzie will be backup point.  And this team definitely needs TSM back in the lineup.

The offense as a whole was stagnant I would love to see this team run to get Mo on the break juan downhill to the rim for kickouts to policelli and tykei slashing. Sunday they’ll be forced to do this against a run and gun st johns team

I completely disagree with anyone who has qualms with JFR looking for his shot first. This team is not blessed with offensive weapons, so I want the most gifted guy to take as many reasonable shots as possible. He had a couple headscratchers – the three before Policelli's 32 footer comes to mind – but I'm totally fine with the occasional bad shot. He's the only guy that St. John's is even remotely worried about. And by the way, I think JFR is looking for other guys. Five assists ain't bad. In fact, five a night would lead the conference.

Main takeaway for me is Greene. Just a gutsy night for him. He had some feel around the rim for a 6-4 guy. It might not work against teams with actual length, but he might be able to operate down low in the AE a la Yeboah and Garcia. And what a job on the glass. Loved the energy from him and Habwe tonight – both made plays. The team in general showed some pride in that second half – they looked sort of lost in that first half.

Interesting stat from the first two games: we've shot 58 free throws to the opponents' 28. That is a chasm. The shooting percentage (.483) doesn't help, but hopefully we'll get that number up. St. Peter's and Fairfield are two teams who like to muck it up so we'll see if this trend continues. We're probably going to have to win ugly ourselves quite a bit.

Sayles is a very pleasant surprise. I'm glad he got cleared to play.

"TIME WILL COME: Tyler Stephenson-Moore did not see action against Fairfield after logging five minutes against Saint Peter's. And Ford said that's primarily a product of the team's depth. Ford called Stephenson-Moore a "10 as a kid and a 10 as a teammate" and expects his playing time to increase as the season progresses based on merit, as it did last year." https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2020/12/5/mens-basketball-mens-hoop-notes-no-practice-for-st-johns-habwe-makes-most-of-minutes.aspx

Interesting - nice way of saying that he's not in the rotation.  I guess Ford is not worried about making kids happy with playing time, after last year's defections.  He's just gonna play his best 5 (in his eyes) to give him a chance to win.  Kinda surprised that he's out of the rotation - he brings athleticism and energy, which the team lacked for much of the Fairfield game, IMO.
