On the surface, you might think that UNH has something cooking this season – five wins last season and already eight this year, and the core guys will be back for one more year, even two. And for a program that has next to no basketball tradition, I'm happy for Bill Herrion. Maybe he has something.

If you read up on UNH, there's one word you keep hearing – ugly. Playing ugly, winning ugly, we're tough, we're gritty, we battle, etc. They're hanging in there with what they have though.

Guadarrama's developed into a nice little player up there. I recall him being more like that offensive lineman who's on the basketball team to throw his weight around, but while he isn't somebody who can carry them a la Tanner Leissner (now in Germany's Bundesliga), he's proven that he can produce in the paint and on the perimeter. He's also an ironman, having played 35 or more minutes eight times this season. I'd love a guy like him on our team.

And then there's this kid Sutherlin, a product of mighty Sheridan College in Wyoming, where he spent the last two years. There can't be more than a few Minnesotans all time who have split time between Wyoming and New Hampshire for college. Maybe he's it. But if you look at him ...

... he looks like a solid piece. He had a 21-point, 20-rebound night in UNH's win over Bryant, and another 22 in their triumph over Bryant. Most of it's going to come around the rim. He's taken just 11 threes and shoots just 56 percent from the line. Per one story, he got no D-I or D-II offers out of high school, and UNH was his only D-I offer after two years of juco. I'll bet that Herrion is pleased with having looked past his flaws. More on Sutherlin: https://www.unionleader.com/sports/college/unh-junior-college-transfer-sean-sutherlin-making-an-immediate-impact/article_a00cdc75-9865-5ae0-9b5a-51554e79f2e8.html

The rebounding numbers (14th nationally in margin) are impressive albeit slightly deceptive. They outboarded measly Curry 59-23, Maine Maritime 49-22 and barely D-I Central Connecticut State, Bryant and Maine by wide margins. And they've reversed the shooting numbers, defending much better and converting more on their own. And look at the assist numbers – 223-154 on the year.

There is a legitimate chance that we sleepwalk into this one. I'm not saying we lose, but with the win in Burlington, the SportsCenter highlights, and all that, I hope that we understand that it's still early January and we have to take care of business at home. Dream scenario is we do that and that UMBC knocks UVM down another notch.

Lastly, is radio really back?? It looks like they're lined up to do home games this winter. I do appreciate the postgame wrap and interview, and the play-by-play when I can't make a game.

The question is, when does home court start to really buzz again?  School not is session doesn't help, but would be nice to get into the high 2000's at least for these conference games.  ( I just looked and it said we had 2500 for Norfolk St.  I am not buying that for even a second)

Now that we know this team is good, it would be nice to see them develop a nice professional identity where you know they are going to come in and put the hammer down and take care of business against the teams they should be able to do that with.  Save any conference losses for games against the top third of the league.

I expect another underwhelming crowd. We lunatics are aware of the team's every move, but the community at large has no idea of what's going on. I mean, they're running a Seawolves Anytime campaign where you can get into all games for just $10 - like ALL games for a one-time payment of $10. Granted, you're in an end zone and your back is killing you, but you're in the building. Yet it's still not full. I wonder if you have to buy the whole year to get it. Hmmm.

UNH getting 12 seems like a few too much, but I think we win, which is all that matters.

This has always been a problem with SBU and sports as far as I can remember (exception being the Warney years; specifically, 2016).  Personally, I love going to games, but since my son lives far from me and my girls and my wife aren't big sports fans, it's much easier to just flip on ESPN+, rather than looking like a lunatic sitting alone and yelling at the refs.  Given that, I still attended about 6 games last year, but only 1 this year so far to date.  Also, Newsday does a non-existent job of promoting games, and their coverage of completed games is unusually weak.  Intercession, New Hampshire, and NFL playoffs, maybe we crack 1,700 tomorrow night.

Sure, let me know, CoB!  I'm going next Sat (Albany) with my son, and will definitely want to go to UVM and playoff games.  I live about 15-20 mins from campus, so distance never an issue for me.

I really wish that the America East schedulers could guarantee that the Albany-SBU games are at least in February.

Maybe I'm just a natural pessimist but I do fear the trap game. I could totally see a scenario where UNH rebounds well enough to gain some momentum. Let's nip them in the bud quick.

It’s very telling that UVM is giving 10 at UMBC. Retrievers are way way down.

Got crushed 74-50. What’s going on with Umbc?

I think they’re struggling with injuries. Still, was hoping Vermont would struggle a little

I watched some of the game today. They don’t shoot the three well and don’t have any standout scorers. Some of that is definitely injuries - no Arkel Lamar, no Shawnta Rogers’s kid (leading scorer at 5-foot-2!). They’re left with a bunch of role players. I know KJ Jackson’s all conference but you don’t worry about him dropping 25 on you.

we look ok, up 9 at half.  getting torched on the boards, and missing FTs.  but otherwise an injury-laden UNH makes a long road trip to #1 SBU and is surprisingly pesky.

a ncie 19-5 run to open the half, mostly ola.

there's 15min left and ola, garcia, and gueye have 3 fouls each.  good thing we are up 22.
