With Pick and Roll Coverage and Rim protection being emphasized so much in today's game. He'll have a shot. There are only two kinds of 5 men in today's game primarily, the rim protector who can guard on the perimeter and the shooting/floor spacing 5 man. Either you're Clint Capela/Jarrett Allen or you're Kristaps/Karl Towns. Boals thinks big Jeff will play in the NBA as well. He's actually compared him to Capela during the recruiting process.
Otchere has to continue to get better and work at the rate that he's been working behind the scenes and on the scene. Everything else will take care of itself.

Christie is a nice piece and he'd be playing a lot more under any other circumstances. The lefty jump hooks are legit by him. He's got a righty hook as well, and can carve out space on the glass.
No he isn't a rim protector nor can he step out and guard the perimeter but being that large gives you the ability to deter penetrators in this league. With further development, he'll be a load. Not just serviceable but load. Junior and Senior year Watch out for him.
I guess there’s a shortage of 7 footers with no athleticism.  Last night, he had his shot blocked on an attempted layup - Christie’s feet never left the floor.  He can be on the team next season without a scholarship or bye-bye.  Our expectations need to be higher for this team in a horrible conference.  I don’t want to waste any scholarship on the hopes of any kid being mediocre by his senior season.

Christie is alot like the big guy at Michigan    Teske I believe.  Watched him the other night  bottle the middle and score against Indiana and he is a sophomore.  Christie will improve if he stays with it .  Warney  wasnt NBA material either in his first two years he was over weight and slow up and down the court .  Give the kid a shot and he will be fine at this level .

Christie is young and slow afoot, but what an outstanding move to his left last night (he is right-handed, I believe).  He is certainly a longer-term project, but remember Petras who was raw as heck as a freshman, and turned out to be quite serviceable by his senior year.  I think there is definitely some upside to his game, and he currently provides some nice depth when Otchere and Chef get into foul trouble.

or even mcalister.  he came a long way from his jr year to sr year.

Yes, leaps and bounds.  And if I'm not mistaken, he is still playing professionally, or had a long professional run.
How old a Seawolf am I? I followed them during their Final 4 DIII hoops run in 1977-78 (they were called the Patriots then)

It's going to be so much fun to watch Otchere over the next couple of years. This may be bold, but I'll say it: he's going to play in the NBA.

Otchere needs to be an offensive threat and score more points. Will, that happen next year? time will tell. Way, way to soon to talk about NBA.

Sloppy game but a win is a win.
I'm very concerned with our turnovers as conference play goes on. Especially the "live ball" turnovers.
We defended in the half court very well though and held them to an extremely low conversion rate. Wasn't all Big Jeff. I love how Olaniyi can sit in a stance and guard 5'9 guards but also can body up a 6'7 forward or slide his feet with an electric wing(Michigan State game). Man he's a stud on that side of the ball. Jules Moor needs more playing time is a tier below Olaniyi defensively.
Im happy big Jeff is getting the hang of his foul trouble. Binghamton started second guessing themselves every drive after that block in Little Sammy where we ICED the ball screen. Jeff took a Horrible angle and Sammy just changed directions to easily get into the lane, he thought he had a lay up (So did I) and Jeff recovers and swats it. That block there changed how they attacked. That is the Otchere Jeff Boals envisioned and why all those Universities wanted him.
How about 29 big minutes from McKenzie. Only turning the ball over 1 time. Compared to Cornish's 4 TO's in half the amount of time. I know the forum has been critical of him but I think the brakes need to be pumped just a little. And I think we all should appreciate him more. He's a steady hand during the storm at times. That 50 foot pass to Moor for the dunk is as good of a pass as you'll see in all levels of basketball. You can't practice that type of feed any better.
As a person who works with HS, College and Pro players for a living I learn to appreciate guys like McKenzie a great deal. Guys like him keep your locker room happy because they give the rock up to teammates very often, are technically sound and don't play outside of themselves. McKenzie almost always fakes a pass, before he makes a pass when he's under pressure. That's Textbook fundamentals. Some of the High major guys I work with still can't grasp that concept. When McKenzie plays within himself and does what he does, I'll take him any day.

All great points.  Still think McKenzie picks up his dribble way too early at times, particularly when under pressure.  I'd like to see him keep the dribble alive longer, and pass off the dribble consistently.  He's obviously earning more playing time with Coach Boals, and quite frankly, I love to see a coach pull someone off the floor, when they are not doing what they are supposed to be doing.

McKenzie is a bench warmer. SB would be much better off if Moore, Long, Olaniyi played more minutes and McKenzie sits this season out..

One reason why he is able to do that is that he has given up the dribble. Not good. He has a tendency to do that and at our level the defending guards will swarm you and your teammates  have to cut towards you...getting the offense a bit out of synch even if you don't turn the bll over.

He is a solid player, makes very good decisions (except when he gives up the dribble),  and always looks to get his teammates involved. (He is not a slasher or a leaper or a slick ball handler/shooter  like Woodhouse...but I think he is a serviceable backup on the squad who can be effective against AE teams like Binghamton - as we saw. )

I agree with your sentiments. He does kill his dribble often and could take 1 extra dribble to draw the help defender a tad bit closer. But he's limited in the dribbling department as you noted and he knows it which is important.
Would we rather he take the extra dribble and cough the rock up or pick his dribble up and move it along safely and our Seawolves keep the possession?  Those are our options.
One other thing of note is when McKenzie does get past a guy, he changes hands with the ball to avoid the back tap. Another fundamental that even high major guards don't grasp.

He's a ball mover, a guy that will get into the paint off kick outs and lazy closeouts but won't create to get in the paint and almost always will kick it or dish it. He's going to get the ball over half court without turning it over. And if you're up ahead he will hit you right on the button like he did Jules Moor. He's serviceable back up with what he brings to the table.

We will be way better at that spot next year. Supposedly Kale is our best player. So as Cornish moves out. Kale just slides in and we keep what we have unless Yeboah leaves after graduation. The players themselves even think he's the goods.
More scorer than facilitator. Will shoot the 3 at a 40% clip and handles the rock well.
