Stony Brook loses to one of the worst div1 team in the country. That is an total embarrassment to the university and to coach Boals. Not much more to say except, WOW!!!!!!!

Yeah, not sure what you can say about that one. Certainly seem to be trending way down heading into conference play now. Ouch.

A lot of pretty good minutes by Garcia....maybe that's good in the long run??? (searching for a hint of good here)

Big ol’ serving of humble pie.

Garcia looked great.

On to Maine.

Unfortunately it’s clear that this is a very mediocre team. The good news is, just a little over a month to women’s lacrosse.

Just check the score...

We lost? We ******** lost?!? Are you kidding me? NSU had an RPI in the 330s. This kind of loss at home is pathetic. Good lord.

Sturdivant- is an absolute clown and has done nothing to improve his inside game over the last 4 years.  I can’t wait until he ends career at Stony Brook!

Yeboah - is an absolute man-child, but he still makes too many mental errors - he needs to play more in the summertime and receive more coaching.

Saintel - always has the deer in the head lights look. Has great athletic talent, but it is very obvious that he never received the correct coaching before he arrived at Stony Brook.

Sekunda - has probably been the most disappointing player over the last 4 years.  Other than a 8 game stretch in his junior year, he has been brutal - the knee injury didn’t help.

Cornish - has been a great burst of energy and has to improve on finishing his drives to the basket.

McKenzie - has taken major lumps in his first year, but I don’t understand all the wide open misses from 3-Point land.

Olaniyl - is a major guestion mark since his minutes have been limited.  Maybe, he can start taking minutes away from Sekunda.

Petras - basically gives you what you expect from him.

Garcia - has great potential and hopefully, does well at the charity stripe.

Iroegbu - needs to be more consistent.

The next morning and I'm still thinking about this one, and still cannot decide if it's worth analyzing or just one of those games you forget and move on. Like COB said, Norfolk didn't look 1-12/worst D1 team bad even with only 9 players suited up. Frankly, as is the case, they just looked about like most of that big crowd of mid-low D1 teams. The pieces were all there among those teams--physical, quick, solid-shooting guards and a couple of bigs who could hold their own down low.

Pressure out high continues to haunt SBU (we saw that right away back in that D3 game, where even that team bothered SBU). 17 turnovers was brutal. Combine that with the inevitability of the mid-major 3 ball game and with Norfolk hitting close to 50% and SBU at a pedestrian 30% and you've got the equation for the loss, I'd say.

Oddly, too, for whatever reason SBU came out with low energy and attention to detail which seemed to get worse as the game progressed. If Yeboah didn't have his monster first half, this would have been an easy Norfolk win vs a rather close game.

Upside, again, is Garcia looked good. And among the obvious bucketful of downsides was Almonacy (wasn't the buzz over the summer that he was vastly improved?) and Ochefu (hopes of AE freshman of the year candidate prior to the start of the year?) parked on the bench the whole game. For this night, things simply did NOT look very good.

If you take out Shawnee State, you could argue that this is the first game that we entered as the clearcut favorite. And I think our guys knew that.

We will be favored to beat Maine on Wednesday and can’t afford to make the same mistake.

33 marks the most three attempts in a game in the Boals era; it makes more sense against a team like Michigan State than lowly Norfolk State. 10 made threes, *10* made twos

It’s telling that the game story hasn’t been posted on the SB Athletics site. Just embarrassing.

Garcia getting onto the court has me very excited- the guy may be a better athlete than Saintel.

Cornish has settled into a starting PG role well but he needs help. He and Yeboah need some help and Garcia could provide some critical help.

Give those two (or three) a decent big man and we'd be a contender.

I went to this game last night...it has become a tradition to go to a game with an out of town buddy of mine when he is home visiting family for the holidays if the SBU schedule aligns.  I almost suggested not going to this one, thinking it would be boring due to the supposed "lousy" opponent.  But, we figured it would be a night out...and my daughter wanted to come too...

Wow.  Our team looked very sloppy.  I don't get why so many 3's were taken on our part.  As someone else mentioned, I understand doing that against a Michigan State or in any other over-matched scenario...but not sure why they'd take that approach against a supposed bottom of the barrel D-I team.   I guess when we're dealing with mid-major and below, anyone can beat anyone on a given night.

Anyway, very disappointing...does not bode well for conference play.  But, it's just one game, and I try not to be too hard on these students...we need to remember they are students and not millionaire pros.  That said, we can still be disappointed in them...and moreso the coaching staff really...but I just try to keep in in perspective.

After the game I did a little research on Norfolk State.  While they are ranked very poorly and have a lousy record so far this season, the program does have some pedigree (relative to what I thought of them before the game, which was zilch...I had literally never heard of them).  They made the NCAA tournament in 2012 and won a round against the #2 seed.  And they've made the NIT/CIT every year since. And, they have an alum who is a current NBA player on the Knicks.  (None of this is an excuse for the loss.)

I noticed that this morning. SB athletics must be hanging their heads over this total, debacle of a lose... As they should...

Losing to teams that are on par with you is exceptable and honorable. losing to teams that are in the running to be the worst team in Div1 is totally unexceptionable..

Well said Moviethread. This game and year is a total fog and mindbogling.. Ochefu, who i thought would be our big and go to go is a no show. I guess we'll find out next season when he actually plays if he is the real deal or not.

Garcia reminds me of Yeboah. Strong, fast and div1 ready. Give him some more playing time and this team could have that 1 , 2 punch next season..

The upside to last night is Garcia looks ready after 23 months of surgeries and rehab .  Put him in the starting role  and sit Saintel or Sturdivant.  Garcia just made it look easy last night being in the right places at the right time .  We should win Wednesday against Maine  hopefully .

I dont see coach Boals sitting seniors over Garcia.
