This may be one of the most complete teams we have had including our teams with Warney/Puriefoy.

Can't wait for Hofstra

Hofstra scares me. We probably will drop this one because Foreman is a beast and he will most likely be drafted in the 2019 NBA draft. If we can stop him, then there's a chance to squeak out a win.

That was just a joy of a game to watch. Both teams took care of the ball, only 18 free throws between the two teams, nobody in foul trouble, back and forth, pretty good shooting, toughness by our guys in particular – it really was a well played ballgame by two teams whose arrows are pointing up.

Otchere was terrific. Ten big boards and four blocks, none bigger than the one on Anderson with 45 ticks left. And then I thought the coaching staff drew up a beautiful play out of the timeout – screen the guard on top of the zone, Cornish penetrates, the big man comes forward, and he dumps it to Garcia for the layup. That's just great basketball. Back to Otchere: boy, if he can play like he did today, we are one heck of a well-rounded team. It almost looked like he was ceding ground to Carter knowing that he wasn't going to score over him.

Re: Cornish, just a gigantic second half for him. He was almost invisible in the first, but he made some big buckets for us after the break. His assist/turnover ratio was almost even a year ago, but he's close to 2:1 now. He's made huge strides as a floor general.

You can't say enough positive things about Latimer's development. It used to be that when Yeboah left the game we'd just bide time until he returned. But we're getting scoring from everywhere, and it feels like every time Latimer lets one go, you assume it's going in. We had a little of that with Woodhouse his senior year, but Latimer's a different animal. That three to put us up 70-68 was enormous. His free throws at the end, with the 5.5 or 6 point spread, had the attention of whoever wagered on the game.

Another nice day for Olaniyi. He looks 100 percent. You just love the energy that the whole team's playing with. There were three or four instances in which we leapt from the court to retrieve a loose ball and fired it off a UD player to keep possession. Could've been the difference in the game really.

With 25 more today, that's four straight games that Yeboah's gone over 20, which matches a career best. He's now 22 behind Mike Popoko and Anthony Jackson for seventh in points in the Division I era. Pretty good chance he gets there Wednesday with Hofstra in town. It's the last home game of our non-conference schedule.

Delaware's a nice team. They should do well in the CAA. Love the balance now that Allen's back, and it feels like Carter's good for a double-double every night. They'll miss him next year, but Inglesby has a good nucleus returning.

dare i say it but...

did we upgrade from pikiell?  ruTgers is 5-5 (0-2).  they did beat miami.

boals hasnt won the AE title yet but is otherwise looking like a gameday coach.  and recruiting, while not yet signing a 3 star like warney, seems to be on par.

IMO:

As a game coach - yes.  He has really come into his own this year, making judicious substitutions, managing Otchere, calling prudent TO's, instilling confidence in players to finish games.  Pikiell quite avg in that respect.

As a recruiter - too early to put him at same level as Pikiell, but Latimer, Olaniyi, and others were absolutely huge gets.  Ask me again in 2 years;

as an ambassador for University - give Pikiell the edge.  More vocal, talked to fans, got on WFAN, more externally communicative in general.

It's a bit too early to say. Pikiell really had to build up SBU, while Boals stepped into a pretty good situation. The depth of this team is better than anything I can recall under Pikiell though. Despite not having another Warney level player yet. Boals is on track to be better, but it's still very early to say much.

What I am about to say will get a ton of comments, But. Yeboah is better than Warney. Yeboah can defend, drive to the basket, hit the 3 ball and make free throws.4

Warney was able to defend, drive to the basket, but could not shoot the 3 ball and was 55% at the FT line.

All in all. Yeboah is a better Basketball player than Warney was as a Junior.

Different players, different talents.  Warney was an offensive/defensive force on the inside.  Yeboah much better distance shooter.  Warney is a G League star.  I love Yeboah, but predict that he will play high European league next year.  Prove me wrong Akwasi!

"predict that he will play high European league next year." And the European league is will Warney will probably land after this year. He's not NBA talent. If he was the Mavericks would have kept him longer than 10 days last year..

I agree with Hammertime, Yeboah is a better all around player and will have a better shot of making the NBA due to his ability to switch on defense and shoot the ball.
Warney was a force inside but couldn't switch out on pick and roll against great guards and succeed, nor shoot the ball with range. He was low post monster offensively and defensively but that's only one spot on the floor. Yeboah is all over the floor.

I think we all agree that Boals is the better coach, but when it comes to recruiting i'd say it's a toss up right now.
Warney was a huge getting from a rating standpoint he was a top 25 PF in HS ball according to ESPN and once was ranked as a top 100 recruit in the nation by them but questions about his motor dropped his stock. Ratings aren't everything, his production backed up his rating though. Also Yeboah is Pikeill's guy. So two of the best most recent recruits were landed by the former coach, also I tip my hat to a guy that builds a program literally from scratch.

Boals is coming out with his guns blazing and landing studs collectively and has hired the right assistants. They have a presence in NYC and in the New England Prep school world and also outside of our local cold weather areas.Lattimer should of been rated a lot higher in HS. Playing for Paul VI in HS and Team Takeover in AAU hid how good he was but also sharpened his game and grit at the same time. Latimer may end up better than every SBU Player ever in the end. He's more skilled than everyone. Olaniyi will contend for player of the year before his career is done and Big Jeff will win DPOY every year he's there and if he can stay on the floor it's no telling what he'll be doing next season. With all that being said Boals has some really nice recruits under his belt who have all made impact from day 1. We have to let those guys play a few more seasons to really have a grasp on their impact here.

If Yeboah is better than Warney, and the entire rest of the team around Yeboah is better than the team around Warney (This isn't up for debate. Nothing against those other guys, but we've never had depth like this), I expect to win the AE both remaining years with Yeboah, make the NCAA Tournament, and win at least one game once there. They're not going to disrespect the AE champ again after what UMBC did. Them as a 16 was a joke, the AE champ is usually a 13 or 14.

Just have to get through Anthony Lamb at Vermont first.

i like two things here-

one is that we are able to have a reasonable, civil discussion in an age of internet flaming...

and secondly, the fact that i had assumed warney would be our best ever player and within a few years, it's already in question.

I feel like comparing Warney and Yeboah is like comparing a running back and a wide receiver. two different positions but both are awesome. Warney has a ton of heart and that drive is making him a better player everyday. If Yeboah can pick up something from Warney going to NBA is Warney is noticeably stronger now. Yeboah needs to get a little stronger up top to catch up to his lower body. Yeboah is fearless and a clutch shooter, maybe he makes it as a small forward in NBA.

Knicks can use him right now lol
