Coming off a 20-win season, PC was picked to finish fourth in the Big East behind Villanova, Seton Hall and Xavier, and a strong start suggests they're very much on pace to make the 20-win plateau – and the NCAA Tournament – for a fifth straight season.

What's working in our favor? Injuries. Diallo is expected to miss Sunday's game, as is guard Maliek White. They both were out for this past weekend's loss at UMass. So there's that.  ::)

But Friar fans can rest assured that there's plenty of ammunition left in the barrel. PC will be led by three seniors – Bullock, Cartwright and Lindsey – the first two of whom earned all-conference second team honors in the preseason. PC has gotten excellent bench production throughout the year already, so it's just a matter of more minutes for them.

Providence is an outstanding perimeter shooting team, ranking 16th in the country on three balls at 42.2 percent. The aforementioned senior trio is behind that, shooting better than 46 percent (48 for 104) between them.

I think containing PC starts with containing Cartwright, who makes everything go in running the point. We've seen some excellent guard play here in the first month, between Cowan from Maryland, Adams from UConn, Persons from Ball State, Winston from Michigan State and, as you saw last night, Wright-Foreman from Hofstra. I can't see us prevailing this weekend, but we have seen some good stretches from the guys and hopefully they can do it for a full 40 minutes.

Expect a 20 point loss in this one.
Our next win should be against  Norfolk St.

Lets go Seawolves! I don't expect a win. But just go out and play hard!

This game will be on Fox Sports 1.

Looking good so far.

Like the Uconn game, this one is very winnable for us. I'd be great to take down a team from the big bad Big East.

So far so good . I'm waiting for the wheels to come off in the 2nd half.

Unfortunately that’s the usual script

Getting that ill feeling also. I like that Cooley put in the walk-on. PC is sleepwalking.

Brutal two minute stretch from Ty. Two fouls, a bad turnover and I think the three in the key was on him.

Pressure now eating us alive.

Three minutes left and we feed Petras on back to back possessions?

That last foul just another example of how the college game has become less watchable because of refs blowing their whistles too much for ticky tack fouls. Overall entertaining game but the outcome was never really in doubt.

This game was one we could have had, and ultimately should have had. We're at the point where we can't keep making excuses for meltdowns like this. That would have been fine a month ago, but we're almost at the end of December and this Providence team was missing four of their starters. They were banged up and we had a double-digit lead. After having that lead the players got sloppy and lost focus. Once Providence started to really rally back, I had to change the channel because I knew at that point what was going to happen. Maybe in OT we have a shot, but that GARBAGE foul at the end sealed it. What a joke. It should have never even come to that point though.

Today should have been a win. Maybe we'll start rolling teams come AE play and have a great season, but I kinda doubt it.

I agree. That's the number one thing I hate about basketball period at all levels. The refs blow the whistle every 5 seconds for the every little minute pat on the shoulder. It makes it unwatchable most of the time. It's quite frustrating.

Would be nice for SBU to get games like this, but I'd say that's about the best you can expect from the team right now. They have a habit of being pretty good and poised for 30 mins against more talented teams, and they just don't seem to have the leadership from anyone at the moment to handle things when the noose tightens (especially on the road).

One of those games where if beforehand someone said to an SBU fan, You take this game coming down to the final possession? And most of us would reply, Heck yes. Then you see the game and think, Ugh, they should have won that one...

Thing is, Providence down a few players is still more athletic/talented than SBU. End of the day, those teams usually win.

PS, nice win by Rutgers yesterday. Maybe they're still feeling good going into the sure win and SBU catches them napping. Probably not, but on to the next one.

The pro refs aren’t as bad but in college it seems like incidental contact is a capital offense.

I'd agree with this completely had this been Providence's first team. If they have all of those guys, they're quite likely undefeated and/or ranked coming into today. A performance like that against a healthy team I'd be fine with. What gets me though is that we had this colossal meltdown against what was effectively their 2nd string. That's why I'm upset beyond the usual "we blew it in the 4th quarter again" type of game.

I think we'll do just fine come AE play though and in a year or two if we keep scheduling like this, I'd expect we'll start winning these kinds of games. I'll still take a loss in a game like today's though over beating up on SWAC and D2 teams in the non-conference.
