6-6/240 gs F Joel Angus III 8.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, .569 FG%, .818 FT%

I don't think any of us saw last year's 38-point beatdown coming, not even the team, and I hope some of the sting is still there.

Wright-Foreman dropped 22 on us last year off the bench, and a couple weeks later he was in the starting lineup for good. He ended up third in the conference in scoring – leading Hofstra in points in each of its last 12 games – and was named second-team All-CAA as a freshman. JWF got off to a poor shooting start this fall, but looks to be rounding into shape just in time for the battle of Long Island, topping 20 points in each of the last four games, the last three of which were wins. He poured in 30 in Hofstra's win at Rider.

So we once again wonder whether we can bottle up an elite player. Or two. Pemberton certainly has had his days in the sun too. We did well to force Mike Smith from Columbia into a poor shooting night.

If you recall, last year's debacle very much had to do with our poor shooting and an inability to compete on the glass. We fell behind by 20 at the half, thanks in part to Hofstra's 13-2 advantage in second chance points. Gustys, who's a behemoth, racked up 18 boards on the night and the overall edge was 59-30. Yuck.

Gustys has a new running mate this year in brawny Angus, who's from Brooklyn, played two years of juco at Westchester CC and Monroe, averaged 11 and 6 while starting every game for Southeast Missouri State as a junior, and got injured last year, which allows him to play a graduate year at Hofstra. They also have the kid Hunter Sabety from Oceanside, who's a solid big off the bench.

Hofstra was picked to finish fourth in the CAA behind C of C, Towson and Elon. Between the two of us, they have the highest-quality win, having beaten Dayton on a neutral floor a few weeks ago. They've gotten a little lucky in their last two wins despite the opposition shooting better than 50 percent in each game. How? Hofstra beat Monmouth by one after MU shot 8 for 17 from the line. Rider was even worse, going 11 for 25 in a six-point loss.

Hopefully there's some fire in our guys' guts after last year, and we go and get this one. A big crowd can only help.

I don't feel good about this game.  Our lack of Free throws and turnovers could put in us in the hole early . Anyway it should be a good crowd .

This is a lost season. This team is currently going through a major rebuilding year.. Dont expect much out of them this season. I believe, next season and beyond is when SBB makes that next leap forward to compete with Vermont and Albany and a shot at the NCAA. I am just sitting back and watching them develop..

Lost? Hey, I'm not blind. Vermont should roll through the AE and into the NCAA tournament. But a lost season? I see no inexcusable losses on the ledger, not even LIU on the road. We've been in every single game. We're currently ranked fourth in RPI in the conference behind Vermont, Albany and UMBC, all of which we kinda thought we'd be behind anyway. I know we made the tournament with an NBA caliber big man, but without him, who thinks a conference tournament semifinal/final appearance is this huge disappointment?

I'll remind you that we were 3-7 at this point last year.

I Just dont see them competing well in the AE this year. And that is to be expected with a rebuilding team. It is not a knock on the team, it's a fact.. New coach. New players, sloppy turnovers, miss fouls shots. These are indicative of a young , inexperienced squad. They are still figuring things out, and they will. I just don't see it happening this year..

This is a rebuilding year and it wouldn't be realistic to expect an AE title or tournament berth...

However, this is college basketball. Upsets happen in March and once you reach the AE tournament, you're only three games away from the NCAA tournament. What if there's an upset or two somewhere? What if the balls that bounced against us in these early games start going in our favor? With the nature of CBB being what it is, we should never just give up on a season. We may not be the favorite this year, but we'll always be in the mix come tournament time. We've always been at least a top 3-4 program in this conference. No way that's out of reach again even this year.

Refocusing on tomorrow, this is a RIVALRY game. We should want to bury them by 40. The score last year was an embarrassment and I hope the players recall that and return the favor back to Hofstra this year at home.

im thinking the same.  all those years we mopped up the AE just to fall in the second/third round.  that could be us on the other end.  getting hot in feb!

but if we shoot cold as we usually do, AND dont have an inside presence to cover the mistakes, were not going to beat top 2-3 teams in the tournament.  maybe 4-5-6.  but not the top teams.

Looking forward to the game. Who knows what will happen, in response to last year and otherwise. Here's hoping the good guys play well, and only the most worthy, talented point-scorers start!    :)

I think people are way too down on the team right now. At this time last year, the team was ranked 232 in the country according to KenPom. They are currently sitting at 189 which is third best in the AE. I fully expect them to get better as the season goes on and make a run at Albany and Vermont.

That final shot was inches short. That goes in and we go into OT. I Like our odds in OT. :(

I HATE losing to damn Hofstra. Friggin hate it. The arena looked pretty full, but I'd have hoped for a little bit of a bigger crowd for a rivalry game.

Entertaining game. That very poor stretch in the second half and no stopping Wright-Foreman didn't help, and inexplicable that a little more legs on the three would have sent it to OT. Can't necessarily feel too bad about the loss as SBU was right there and fighting the whole game.

Can we get Olaniyi even more minutes and shots? That guy is good. Cornish is a wrecking crew out there, doing it all. And Sekunda hitting his shot is fun to watch.

Some weak pieces and a quiet night from a few players. If SBU can get some of this worked out by conference they'll be tough in the AE, at least on their home court.

In 11 minutes, he cost us the game?

I’d say it was an inability to contain Wright-Foreman. He’s a pro somewhere. Made his threes, got to the line a ton, and led the second-half comeback. He had all seven points in the run that took it from 77-all to 84-77. Sekunda’s foul on the three pointer right after Akwasi made three was DEVASTATING.

Buie had a career high 19 too. Brutal.

I don’t think Mac or Almonacy saw the floor in the second half. Very little Iroegbu too. Cornish went the whole way, and Sekunda came pretty close. How about 36 minutes for him? Glad to see it. He is really on the mark this year, and he and Cornish really kept us afloat in this one.

Really weak crowd. Should’ve been played on a weekend night. The whole year has been quiet. Truthfully, you should drive through town and on campus and never be able to forget that there’s a big game on the schedule. Nobody here even knows it’s happening.

We really could use a kid like Sabety - big, strong athlete who can protect the paint and doesn’t look hopeless offensively. I’m amazed he ever got to Tufts. You just can’t ignore his size. He and Gustys rendered Ty moot inside

The best passer, best dribbler, and ROY candidate of the AEC is held scoreless for the 5th consecutive game. 😂😂😂😂.

Eh. So he’s taken some early lumps. I don’t mind admitting that he hasn’t yet had the impact I expected. No worries. He’ll grow into it. It isn’t the first or last time I’ll be wrong.

Admit though: Mac’s shot goes up and deep down you hope it doesn’t go in. Right?
