Game 10: SBU v. Hofstra
« on: December 18, 2015, 11:16:12 pm »
Psyched we're back on the Island! What do we call the arena? The Island?

We haven't beaten Hofstra since 2007, so before we get too confident with having it at home and having shown some positive signs in a few spots (and a couple humbling defeats).

Hofstra's had some really nice wins already - at St. Bonaventure, at La Salle, Florida State on a neutral floor. I'd say all three of those wins are better than us beating Princeton at home. Hofstra having three players averaging 15 a night, and a fourth averaging 11 and a half suggests they'll be able to attack in a few different ways. By contrast, so much of our offense relies on Warney, whether it's running plays through him or cleaning up other guys' messes.

I think this one's going to be up and down, which I think is the pace we would rather play. We NEED Sekunda to continue to show he can make the three, and we can't be reluctant to feed him 8-10 three attempts. If Nyama's consistent with it, get him some shots too.

We also need Woodhouse to start doing something and stop turning the ball over, and Purifoy needs to be on his A game today otherwise we lose!!!!!!

The bright spot is they are coming off a loss at Siena which was their last game.  This will be a tough win  if we get it.

You're funny, we haven't beaten Hofstra since 2007. You failed to include not playing for 5 consecutive seasons since 2007.  The real stat is that Hofstra has won three consecutive games against Stony Brook.
Tre seems to be the difference maker in winning this type of game.
Prediction: Good Guys 84 Bad Guys 76.

This is a game where it felt like we were up double digits but then you look up at the scoreboard and it's only a couple or we're down.

Great job getting through the first half with Carson. That he and the Green kid from Hofstra sat was more than a fair trade for us. Woodhouse was great and made some big shots. I also liked Nyama on the defensive end, and he hit a couple big shots too. I thought we had great ball movement with Hofstra throwing a couple zones at us. Just have to hit the shots.

Warney too tough in the paint. I love how much of a defensive presence he's been too. The eastern European guy for Hofstra was an ox but little more than a big body, even if he ended up with a dozen or so boards.

It was great to see Walker with the eight assists. He and Carson are still too reckless on the bounce - Woodhouse much more composed - but still somebody that defenses have to worry about.

No depth for Hofstra. They basically played with six guys the whole second half. The kid Blue played major minutes in Green's spot in the first half, but I don't think he saw the floor in the second.

I liked seeing Kam get some good run. He can help. I'd like to see the offense look for Sekunda more, or for Sekunda to look for his shot more. We need these deep threats to stretch that defense.
