I wonder how LIU feels having added hockey right before their finances went kaput.

Women's VB is a headcount sport, so any partial aid given to an athlete in that sport will count towards the total as if it was a full scholarship (same rule applies to FBS football and men's/women's basketball). For that reason along with many others women's Volleyball at SBU is safe. The general proportion of men's to women's scholarship opportunities must remain intact though, so I don't see us adding any men's sports anytime soon. Any pipe dreams of varsity hockey will be gone for quite a while. I contend an FBS move makes sense, but only if it's to a suitable conference. No pulling a Liberty or UMass and moving up just to stay independent.

There still talks of SB moving up to FBS?? I put a lid on that a long time ago. As long as coach P stays as their HC there won't ever be any talks about moving up. Lets try and get in the playoffs and win a couple of games first.

well if sports do get axed, i at least will add that they can come back.  of course the loss of continuity is a pain; coaches, momentum, recruits, facilities, etc.  look at swimming.

I kinda like the idea actually. Less so for basketball but moreso for football. It would be great if P5/FBS football went regional this year. It would really highlight some of the boneheaded realignment moves of the last decade like West Virginia in the Big 12 among others.

Per Jeff Goodman, we'll host a multi-team event with Fairfield and Sacred Heart in late Nov/early Dec.

That's probably what we're looking at this year. Makes sense.

From Ethan Tam ...

The America East has released scheduling outlines for 2020-21:
• 3 weeks of nonconference starting 11/25
• 18-game conference season starting 12/19
• Conference games against same opponent to be held back to back on Sat. and Sun. at the same location

wow.  vermont week just got better.

also probably allows for more upsets, no?  id think maybe a... UNH upset over a top team is more likely if they play back to back days in durham, for example.

We’ll be at Fordham right before Christmas. This is a nice game for us, one that I hope to see on the schedule more often going forward.

In other news, no Providence and, sadly, no St. John’s either. This felt like a year where they’d be an even more sensible fit than normal.

Why no Providence or St. Johns. You can walk there from SBU! Can't blame the Virus for this decision to change.

I updated the schedule to show with the following, as well as thoughts ...

  • Per Newsday, we are likely lined up to play at Marist in the season opener. Marist was recently picked to finish ninth in the MAAC.
  • Hofstra will be on the schedule somewhere as well.
  • I have to figure out what's going on with the Fordham game. Are we really playing them after the conference schedule has started? Seems unlikely.
  • Iona has released its non-conference schedule and, unless we're the TBD at Mohegan Sun later this month, we won't be facing them. That would have been a good non-con test.
  • How you doin' Rutgers?
