You can blame Geno all you want.  The bottom line is this team has zero talent.  You cannot win at this level with juco's and transfers.  Everybody left, and there was no choice but to rebuild this way.  Add a pandemic to the mix and this was never going to be a successful year.  Just have to retool, get a big freshman class and start from the ground floor.  I don't think we can evaluate Geno until there is some talent who can actually play a bit.

I guess my point to all of this is. I have reasons to believe Geno does not have what it takes to recruit talent Like Pikiel and Boels had.

This is not a defense of Geno's coaching, but anyone who is recruited and has talent will be gone in a year, given the current and expected liberal transfer rules.  Any diamonds in the rough that we can land, will be going A10 or higher, if they produce in the AE.   More to the point, we need to coach to the talent of the kids we have.  If we have less talent, we need to work hard to create a basketball environment that will bring out the most in them.

I could see maybe one or two transfers leaving every year, but 6? I'm sorry man. That is an internal problem. I am not going to fall for the notion that half the team is going to leave SB year in and year out because of the new transfer rule. Nope, not happening.

Another miserable day. Truthfully, I forgot the game was even on – you just don't think about Monday day games being a thing.

8 for 25 from three, 8 for 25 from two. That's all you need to know about where we are offensively. We failed to break 50 in conference for the first time since a 57-49 loss at UMBC in 2019. Before that you have to go back to a six-game stretch where we finished in the 40s three times in 2015.

Another nice effort from Gueye. With his newfound touch from deep, he is now our second-best three-point shooter behind Policelli. Four three attempts from Mac today. I didn't see the game so I don't know the context, but I just can't imagine a system that would require that from him when it's obviously not his forte.

Vermont next week. Albany after that.

We played awful again.  Mac started and missed a bunch of 3's.  We missed 3 bunnies in a row, early in the 1st half, and that pretty much sealed our fate.  We probably missed 6 buckets right under the rim today, and everything else was a long range miss.  Sayles and Greene are totally lost.  Mo the only one playing, but he doesn't have enough of a supporting cast, to be The Man.
UMBC has much more talent, and is coached a heck of a lot better.  Sigh.

One nugget from Johnny Wincott today that I was not aware of........all seniors in D1 winter sports automatically get another year of eligibility, so there's a chance that Mo, Sayles, and Habwe may still be in uniform next season.
In the case of Gueye, I really wonder which uniform we’re talking about. He can play a significant role at the same places that Yeboah, Olaniyi, Garcia and Foreman went off to.

I realize that Geno has a difficult hand to work with here. Whether he’s responsible for all the departures, I don’t know. It’s suspicious looking but I’m not in the huddle over there. No matter who’s on the roster though, I wish I’d see more of a system here. Shots don’t go down as much – fine. But I just feel like we’re putting up bad shots every time down the floor. That’s on the system. I go back to the Henry shots I mentioned before – how many times do we get wide-open looks like that because of a great pass or movement in general? It NEVER happens. Gotta be better than that. We’re at five straight games shooting under 40 percent, and I don’t like our chances up in Burlington.

are we over-complicating this?

we agree that we aren't a great shooting team.

answer- take higher % shots.

instead, we've forced lower % shots in traffic without moving the ball and our 2 is injured.

Long story short, SBU can't afford to fire Geno, not with three years left on the deal (outlined in the Stadium article below). For reference, Boals contract info is underneath.

Well, there you go!!! Why in the world would Stony Brook lock in a 5-year contract to an assistant coach who doesn't have a proven winning track record.  I could see 2 or 3-year contract max, out of the gate then reevaluate after year 2. But 5???? This program deserves what it gets.

We make the most baffling contract decisions and it's the reason why our programs languish in mediocrity for years and years despite paying good money to our coaches. BS.

Heilbron is not as good as an AD as some people would have you believe.
