2019-2020 Season
« on: May 09, 2019, 10:29:38 am »
with all the changes to the staff and the roster- shall we even attempt at figuring out what this year will look like?

SR: foreman
JR: mack, garcia, ola, gueye, chef, otch
SO: latimer, ceesay, christie
FR: policelli, TPP, TSM

i have policelli in the FR class because he won't be eligible for this upcoming season.  im sure i have something wrong in there!

I think Foreman is a JR, and has 2 years of eligibility left.  Since Policelli has to sit 1 year and Aubry presumably left, I think we still have 2 roster spots available for upcoming season, no?

this is why i asked the question... wanted to get group consensus!!!

so if policelli burned a year at dayton, we can clarify that with the (RS).

SR:
JR: foreman, mack, garcia, ola, gueye, chef, otch
SO: latimer, ceesay, christie
FR: policelli (RS), TPP, TSM

Add Providence to the schedule. Hope to actually finish the deal this time.

Policelli is a huge get. He will have another year to bulk up which is great. Creating a good Lu-Hi connection will pay dividends in the future. With Stephenson-Moore and Policelli we will have 2 Lu-Hi graduates on our roster.

I don’t know much about the mental makeup of the incoming talent, but I do worry about physicality and grit. Cornish and Yeboah were tremendous competitors, and Moor provided physicality and energy off the bench. Long was a nuisance defensively. They all competed, and I think we are going to miss the group as a whole on the glass - even Cornish. Theyre replaced with kids - and I’m sure they’re all good! - but are they ready to get after it? Vermont will be huge again, same with Albany, UMBC has a lot of experience. Will this roster, with all these fresh faces and young bodies, be ready to defend, get on the floor, get on the boards and battle?

Down one, 10 seconds left, who gets the ball? Who wants the ball?

All great points Checkmate.  Lots of unknowns for sure.  Ford did mention during his inaugural speech that they are going to run more and press more (than in the past).  That alludes to more of a speed/athletic style game than what we're accustomed to. Time will tell for sure.

i like it.  use our depth to create havoc against better teams, throw them off their game.  this creates upsets.

freshman carrying the ball up not suspecting anything?  3/4 press and turnover, momentum our way

why do this?  because going 25-6 and losing in the AE tournament is simply not working for us.

Here is what you don't know, but will soon learn: the 2019-20 Seawolves are going to be really, really good. I have watched summer workouts and can tell you that the athleticism, length and skill of this group is off the charts. Wait until you see transfers Mo Gueye and Frankie Policelli (we're still waiting to hear from the NCAA on Frankie's waiver but should know something soon), who has an NBA body.

As for Mo, he was a 5-9 point guard as a high school sophomore before growing a foot taller over the next two years. His offensive game is truly dynamic and Geno Ford predicts that he and Jeff Otchere will be the top two shot blockers in our league. I've also been impressed with our two freshmen, Tavin Pierre Philippe and Tyler Stephenson-Moore, who are absolute studs and could be playing for any number of high major programs.

Add in point guard Makale Foreman, who was one of our top players last year despite sitting out as a transfer, to our returning group with standouts like Elijah Olaniyi, Andrew Garcia and Miles Latimer and we have something very special. I already know that we won't be picked to win the league, but I could care less. I know that we have the best team in the America East.

Some good info in this quote.  Policelli still potentially in play for this upcoming season, and looks like Foreman will be stepping in for Cornish at the point.

Heilbron is a cheerleader through and through. Visionary, ambassador, supporter, all fantastic. But evaluator of talent? I dunno about that.

Unfortunately, when you lay it on that thick, it's more difficult to believe. TPP and TSM are HIGH-major guys all of a sudden? Akwasi, who starred here and would be in the discussion to have his number retired if he stayed, just transferred to Rutgers. Rotational guys Moor and Long just transferred to Texas State and Southern New Hampshire. So you're telling me that these incoming players went completely under the radar and should be playing P5 basketball? What did he tell us about Moor and Long?

Hey, I hope he's right, but ... have you seen Vermont's roster?

Akwasi is the second best player in Stony Brook history. He’s 6th in career points scored having played just the three seasons.

And he still bolted.

Hey, that's his job.  I agree, a bit long on exaggeration, but his success is predicated on results. He's trying to rally the troops, after we lost our best player, graduated our point guard, and had 2 other guys transfer on us.  BTW, his success will hasten his exit as well, when he makes his jump to the next level.  Although it sucks losing quality people, the fact that Stanley and Akwasi have been recruited away, is just a tip of the cap to how Stony Brook has grown both academically and athletically in the eyes of the rest of the country.
