And playing good teams from bad conferences is good way to boost RPI

As a member of a one-bid league, RPI is irrelevant.

Not true. RPI is relevant for getting anything but a 15 or 16 seed in the tournament, which is an automatic loss.

Fair enough. I'll just say that this isn't a year where I'm concerned about RPI.

BTW, Norfolk State begs to differ that being a 15 seed is an automatic loss. But I get your point.

Per our Pod Cast add Norfolk State at home on 12/30 . Nice pick up

Norfolk was horrible last season at 5-13 outside conference play, which included many blowouts!  I wouldn't very excited about this pickup.

Correction: They were 12-4 in the MEAC, got the 2 seed in the conference tournament and lost in the title game to NC Central.

They were 5-13 on the road.

It's arguably the best program in arguably the worst conference in the country. But this will be a good test and hopefully a nice win to close out non-conference play.
No, I was accurate  ;D
In Conference: 12-4
Out of Conference: 5-13
Home: 10-2
Away: 5-12
Neutral: 2-3

SIREN: https://twitter.com/ShawnHeilbron/status/895691005688766465

For reference, Monmouth's OOC is:

Nov. 10, Bucknell
Nov. 12, at Seton Hall (NIT)
Nov. 14, at Lehigh
Nov. 19, at Virginia (NIT)
Nov. 22, at UNC-Asheville (NIT)
Nov. 25, Penn
Nov. 27, Albany
Dec. 2, at UConn
Dec. 6, Hofstra
Dec. 9, Kentucky (at Madison Square Garden)
Dec. 12, at Princeton
Dec. 22, at Yale

Were I a betting man, I'd say the two Heilbron is referring to are one of either Lehigh or Bucknell, and UConn. Really any two of these would be good additions, but I don't think we'd add a third Ivy to our schedule (Brown and Columbia are already there) and Seton Hall and Kentucky have already released their non-conference schedules. Thoughts??

I would love to see SB play UCONN.

I'd lose it if we played Uconn. That would be a great get. Especially as a home game. Uconn is the exact kind of school we should be playing. Public, regional, with a brand name to boot. They're the exact type of school we should be playing. I'll take games against the Big East, A10, and Ivy League, but most of these tiny schools in the MAAC I have zero interest in playing. I couldn't give a **** about playing Niagara, Siena, and others.

UConn would be a steal for us at home.   Win or lose it would be an emotional win since they were National Champs a few years ago.

Good find, DC.

Yale and Princeton have release their non-conference schedules and we aren't on them. So that leaves Kentucky, UConn, Virginia, Seton Hall, UNC Asheville, Penn, Bucknell and Lehigh.

Two teams that are already locked into the PK-80 are UConn and Bucknell. Also, Heilbron already pointed out that we're hosting a 2017 tournament team, which points to Bucknell again. Kentucky (!), Seton Hall and Virginia are in that category, but the Bison seem far more likely.

HERE'S A BIG ONE:

Looks like Stony Brook at UConn is confirmed! Which also all but confirms the theory about the Phil Knight Invitational.

Uconn is a great get. Even as a road game. Their still a strong program, but they aren't what they once were. I'd love to come out of there with a W as unlikely as that may seem.

An SBU win isn't that unlikely.   UConn was not a strong program in 2016-17, having a losing record and ranking 96th in the nation.    They were significantly weaker than Bucknell.

I'm definitely looking forward to this game... Looks like a road trip is in order..
