Mt. St. Mary's, Iona, and/or Bucknell???

Perhaps I'm whining too much, but playing a bunch of MAAC or Patriot teams doesn't interest me at all (certainly not in basketball). I can't even pretend to give a ****. I do want regional games don't get me wrong, but against teams people have heard of before and are known to be good.

Checkmate, you're probably right about it being Bucknell all things considered. I just long for the day when we can get more home games against Big Ten and Big East teams.

It probably is one of them which  for us isn't bad,  During the Warney Era Iona would not  even talk about a game against us home or away. Bucknell is tough  but it is good Mid Major  team

Because I'm a nudge, I emailed an old colleague at one of the PK80 schools.

"I’m not sure if Stony Brook is a part of the event or not. If you were told it is a Nike-sponsored event it is probably the PK80.

Stony Brook can be a part of the PK80 (or any other preseason tournament for that matter) without going to the actual “bracket play” rounds in Portland. Per NCAA rules, each team can play up to four games in these tournaments. So what they do is, have an eight team bracket (3 games guaranteed for each school) and play an on-campus game at the site of the “big school” going to the bracket play and that counts as the fourth game of the tournament, for the big school. The smaller school will play one or two or these “big schools” then and play other smaller schools who did the same thing, so they can get their four games in. It will still technically be a part of the PK80, but will not participate in bracket/elimination play, like the rest of the big schools will in Portland."

UConn has an TBD PK-80 game on November 14. Maybe?

Out of the 32 conferences, it seems the America East is ranked somewhere between 21 and 28 depending on where you look. Our schedule looks a lot like those across the conference – better than many I'd say. Save for a favor from Pikiell, I don't see a power conference team coming to IFCU until/if we change conferences. Getting Maryland at a neutral site close to home is even pretty good.

Bucknell isn't sexy but it would still be a solid get. That, of course, is just speculation at this point.

Other than Rutgers last year we had Jay Wright and Villanova here many years ago and before that Utah. All were favors returned which brought those teams to Long Island and our gym .   Bucknell would be a good game for us I'm excited to see who else we might play .

Rutgers game is December 22.

I was critical of their infographic at first – what's home and what's away? – but it turns out all 13 games are at home.

Norfolk was horrible last season at 5-13 outside conference play, which included many blowouts!  I wouldn't be very excited about this pickup.

Correction: They were 12-4 in the MEAC, got the 2 seed in the conference tournament and lost in the title game to NC Central.

They were 5-13 on the road.

It's arguably the best program in arguably the worst conference in the country. But this will be a good test and hopefully a nice win to close out non-conference play.

And playing good teams from bad conferences is good way to boost RPI

As a member of a one-bid league, RPI is irrelevant.

Not true. RPI is relevant for getting anything but a 15 or 16 seed in the tournament, which is an automatic loss.

It is good to mix it up  with teams  we haven't played from other conferences .  So far our home OOC is Hofstra, Brown , St Francis Pa and now Norfolk St. Good mix with maybe 1 or 2 more teams for the home slate . I guess we will play our usual D3 program earlier than our opener against Maryland on 11/11.
