I don't have any particular insight into how good (or not) Rojaye Campbell is, but since SBU lost 6 2016 big men they offered to other programs in the past several months, I'm very interested to see how his season at LuHi goes this year.  When I looked at his stats they didn't seem all that impressive in any category, especially for a 3-star recruit.  So, before the Seawolves get too dazzled by the 3-star rating, I hope they consider some of the other candidates they've offered at other court positions.  Their are several pretty good ones that would be good gets for next year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not denying that we go after a really good PF or C to fill the gap to be left by Warney, but I haven't seen anyone nearly that good on SBU's horizon.  It would be a shame to go for a mediocre PF over a very good SF or G.  Besides, don't forget about the other Campbell (Alonzo, that is)!  Do we really know how good he might be?  I'm sure he's been hitting the weight room, and having a 7'0', 240 lb+big man for the next 4 years doesn't sound that bad to me!!  Maybe Alonzo is better than Rojaye.  I don't know, do you guys?

Rojaye Campbell would be a good get out of LuHi. Big 6-foot-9 kid, three star kid per Rivals. According to a Hoop Group tweet that Rojaye retweeted, he has received "offers from Towson, Stony Brook, George Mason, Fairfield, Seton Hall, interest from many high majors." Not a 25 a night type but would he's the kind of size we'll need with Warney and McGrew gone.

Now this is exactly what coach P and staff needs to nail down year after year. It's not an easy thing to do for a low mid major school, but this will separate SB from the rest of the AE if it happens.. Find another Warney and we are golden for 4 more years!!!

Very true.. I really haven't seen Alonzo in practise shooting so your guess is as good as mine..

Cheick Diallo played down the street last year! Damnit!

We definitely need size, and not somebody who's a plodder. Petras fits that mold and Alonzo doesn't strike me as an athletic big. Some athleticism at the 4/5 would be nice, and we'd be putting a lot on faith in them and Tyrell holding down the middle. I have only watched a few minutes of video of Rojaye and nothing stood out as exceptional, aside from his size. His stature suggests he can move around a bit but that's just on the surface.

I wonder about the kid Jamel Allen, who is Almonacy's teammate at Brentwood, is somebody that Pikiell's considering. He was AA All-State First Team (Rojaye wasn't FWIW) and an athletic kid at 6-6/6-7. Rivals says there's interest.

I really like Jamel Allen. He looks like the type of undersized big that thrives in the AE.

Maybe Diallo will want to come back home and play for SB next season before becoming eligible for the NBA draft??? Not likely but i can dream!!!!! This kid went to school 10 minutes from my house at the "Our Savior church"..

Good find, SBU.

I've only watched about 10 minutes of game action and Uniondale's drawn about 15 charges already.

I haven't seen Almonacy in person and only watched about a half; maybe I'll catch the rest sometime this week. First impression: There's some real good things there. It seems he got into the lane at will and did a nice job finding open shooters. Pretty shooting stroke. On the flipside, I'll bet if you asked him who his favorite player was he'd say Steph Curry. Played like him; that's not a compliment in this instance. A few looooong threes (OK when they go in all the time), one-handed passes, possessions off, and he was virtually invisible defensively. I didn't like the intensity. Again, first impression, small sample size, but a big spot for him you'd think and I didn't see the gear I was looking for.

Essentially my impression as well. I think there might be some growing pains as he learns how to play within Pikiell's system. I still think Thrower can be a very solid AE pg. Between Woodhouse and Thrower, we should be able to ease Almonacy into things.

I did watch Alomancy play in person last week at Ward Melville High School...Coach P and and a few Stony Brook Basketball players were at the game watching...... My very first impression is he's very small, barely 6'. He does have decent speed, not fast like Purifoy and does a good job finding the open man in the post. He is also a sharpshooter and was hitting 3s from NBA range the entire game.. He is still raw when he drives to the basket and on many occasions had the ball striped away.. I think Coach P can groom him to be a very good PG in the AE.. He is no a Stephen Curry so don't expect that style of playing from him next season..

I agree with you on the growing pains with Pikiell style of playing but also think Almonacy will fit right in with practise.. I disagree with Thrower. He is a bench player and should only be used in blowout games next season, if thats going to happen again with Warney graduating.. Thrower looks lost and confused out on the floor..

I don't want NBA range threes. I want high school threes. To me that's just poor shot selection/decision making, and if he's doing that in front of his future college coaches, wow, that just isn't very smart. You can hoist one from there at any point on the shot clock. It is a last resort. Steph Curry has made these long-range threes cool, but it's only cool if you make them with regularity, which he does. If Almonacy makes 77 in a row during practice like Curry has, then I'll loosen the leash.

According to his coach, Andrew Garcia is getting season ending surgery on Friday. Don't know what the injury is, but I'll guess he ends up redshirting next year as he rehabs.

Unbelievable! He was suppose to be McGrew immediate replacement. I guess incoming G, Almonacy will have to take that roll..

We should probably see what info we can find on its severity before we count him out for the next 18 months. I'm thinking knee too, but that's purely conjecture.

We haven't mined the juco ranks much (I know it can be dicey). Tyquan Scott (6-7/210) was a beast at Long Beach and is off to a nice start at Herkimer. He was a high jumper in HS. No idea on academics.

Check out these ups: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/tyquan-scott/Ho_pzfTwEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/default.htm

Heck, we'll take Pat Dorrian on the basketball team too if he can play baseball for us in the spring.
