what do you guys think happens this year- do we play a little smaller without warney in there?  or do we use petras/Campbell (or maybe even sturdy) inside like a true center?

or do we leverage all of these mid-6 footers, and play two forwards in the front?  hybrid?

Hard to say for sure without seeing what the jucos, redshirts and noobs do. If I had to hazard a guess, I envision Sturdy 20 minutes, Campbell 15 and Petras 5 at the 5, with Sturdy playing alongside the 7-footers for 10 minutes at the 4. In the AE, I think you can get away with 6-7/225 at the 5, especially with high risers at the 2, 3 and 4 (i.e. Nyama, Saintel and Walker) to help on the glass.

I am most looking forward to seeing what Garcia can do. We need scoring, and I'm hoping he can be a guy who can knock down the jumper but also create his own shot.

yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.  exactly what I was saying/thinking.  we have tall 2/3s that can help out.  no more guaranteed O-reebs like the warney era.

and I was also thinking the same- you can really get away with a shorter 5 in the AE.  I wonder if VT might pose a problem there.

Dallas Joiner was 6'7 and played inside for 3 years so we can go short if 6'7 is short . Interesting team this year for sure . Want to see what Campbell and Saintel bring .

yes but wouldn't you consider him a "heavy" 6'7''?  just like jameel played more like he was 6'10''.  physical, and always under the rim.

the inverse- I think guys like sturdy and petras play less aggressive.  thus, shorter.

I did leave out the new guys because they are unknowns, largely.  were not that far out from game 1!!!

Does anyone have any insight into how the Seawolves performed in their scrimmages with Wagner and Fordham?

I'm guessing it's about time to talk Columbia--the Seawolves' first big test of the season.
My starting 5 is as follows:  Pos.        Name

                                                1                               Woodhouse
                                                2                               Sekunda
                                                3                               Saintel
                                                4                               Yeboah
                                                5                               Sturdivant

While I know that this lineup is a little on the small side, I think Yeboah and Sturdivant are up to the task of yielding sufficient RBs.  If it looks like more Def. RBs or clogging of the middle  is going to be necessary against a particular team, Petras can be brought in for limited duty.  I just feel that this group provides the best combo of athletic and complementary skills.  If either Woodhouse or Sekunda is having an off night, Almonacy will be first off the bench in my opinion.

Any thoughts????

I like it Gold. But I do have a problem with Petras being brought in even for limited duty. I know we didn't see Campbell all that much in the scrimmage but I think he would be a better choice in limited action. he more mobile and can make the 3 ball if necessary, well that's what he did as a junior..

Campbell was getting some serious looks as a Junior, before he got hurt. I find it hard to believe he still doesn't have those basketball skills 3 years later. What did coach Pikiell see in Petras, I have no idea. He went all the way to Europe to get him. Must of been one hell of a vacation that week!!!!!!

Campbell is more of a project than Petras. At least Petras can make his free throws.  Stony Brook will definitely start with a small line-up (no center). Saintel is probably the most athletic BB player ever to play at the Brook - he'll give us a couple of WOW moments each game.  Mitchell played a matured and controlled game against Farmingdale. Yenoah looks like he can offer a couple of threes and a couple of offensive boards per night. Sekunda looks good, but I hate the knee brace. Nyama looks completely healed and should receive additional playing as the season moves along. Woodhouse and Sturdivant both looked solid.  Almonacy looks like a solid second team floor general.

For the first time in 3 years we now know Petras can shoot from the free throw line, WHO KNEW???? What good is that if he can't rebound, jump or be a big man under the basket to get to the charity stripe.. Campbell is rusty but i see more upside under the boards than Petras, by far!!!
