You gotta pay these schools tens of thousands of dollars.  They have nothing to gain by playing road games against lesser opponents.  That's why you never see it happen.

That's  true in basketball and football.  The financial guarantees these schools  command  would break our budget.  We have to be happy  with  what we have .

I think what you all are referring to is associated with games where the more established program travels to the less prestigious one, correct?  I certainly understand that.  My dismay centers around the fact that Maine, UMASS Lowell and UNH are all on UCONN's schedule, but the Seawolves are not!!  If the game must be in Storrs, so be it.  I'd just like SBU to have a shot at playing them.

Can those on the Board with some better program awareness than I have tell me if I'm off base here?  Please check out the following, which looks like it has a fairly complete listing/details of preseason tournaments and participants.  The Seawolves are nowhere to be found!!

http://www.bloggingthebracket.com/2013/12/2/5166356/2015-16-college-basketball-early-season-tournaments-events-MTE

In my cursory review I have found Rider, Robert Morris, Boston U., UMBC, Albany, Bryant, NJIT, Hofstra, Siena, Vermont, Columbia, Fairfield (all programs that usually circulate in the same neighborhoods as does SBU) all have gigs in pre-season tournaments.  But, alas, no SBU.  Should I assume that the travel budget has been totally blown by the European trip, or is there likely a more complex explanation?  In any event, I find it disturbing that in a season with such high expectations that the team will not apparently experience the tournament excitement and competition against highly rated teams in storied arenas as they have in past seasons.  I think it could negatively impact their preparedness.

Our OOC schedule always seems  to be a National Secret every year. Most of our conference mates pretty much  know who they are playing already and what tournaments they are in. In know the Holiday Tournament in MSG  this year is St Johns vs St Francis Brooklyn and Hofstra vs Appalachian St.  I have checked other boards and Holy Cross, Fordham and Colgate don't show us . I know we have home games against Hofstra I think that will be a long term series and the Princeton Tigers visit us as a return game . If the game plan is to get the brand name out there we seem to be falling short with major tournaments . I also truly hope we get away from the our annual thrashing of a D3 team and schedule a mid major instead.   I would think by now our schedule is just about finished and it comes out soon.

So, here are the OOC teams I think we know so far (I think), not in any particular order:

-- Vanderbilt
-- Loyola (Md.)
-- Hofstra (at SBU)
-- Columbia
-- Western Kentucky
-- American
-- Princeton (at SBU)??

Thanks for the update   on the schedule  it looks  good so far.  Need about   7 more schools and we will be set.  Vanderbuilt  will be a good test for sure and glad to see Western Kentucky and Columbia back on our schedule. Those are the types of  programs we should be playing .

I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist.  It's clear that every other school releases more information faster than SBU does regarding the ooc basketball schedule.  Is there any possibility that SBU doesn't release anything until after the season ticket holder deadline passes to make sure the fan base is locked in regardless of who is on the schedule?

I'm not completely tied to this thought, I just find it ridiculous that every other athletic department has released info and SBU zero.

Salty it wouldn't surprise me . Especially since some  of these games  were scheduled last year as return games either home or away Hofstra, Princeton, American, Loyola Columbia were  probably already agreed upon  by the end of last season.

My guess is that there is a lot of pushing and shoving (not to mention arm-twisting and downright coersion) going on behind the scenes.  I'm sure Coach P. is trying his damnedist to get some more attractive home games, and is facing immense challenges in doing so.  He'd certainly favor releasing an entire schedule, rather than leaking it out a bit at a time.

As near as I can tell, here's what's pretty certain at this time (I think):

                Date                             Home/Away                                  Team

                TBD                                 Away                                                           Loyola (MD)
                TBD                                 Home                                                          Hofstra
                TBD                                 Home                                                          Columbia
                TBD                                 Away                                                           Western Kentucky
                TBD                                 Away                                                           American
                11/19                               Away                                                           Vanderbilt
                12/5                                 Home                                                          Princeton
                12/28                               Away                                                           NJIT

Thanks sbugold.. Vanderbilt might be a ranked team this season...should be a good test. Although I guess we aren't participating in any early season tournament.

Vandy will be very good this year, top 3-4 in SEC, and should be ranked in top 25....Hofstra picked to win CAA, NJIT should win or at least contend in Atlantic Sun, Columbia is top 3 in Ivy with 2 first team players, Princeton returns everyone of note and will be challenging Harvard along with Columbia, WKU is always tough at home, you should beat both American and Loyola on road.  Judging by your past schedules, you should still have a D3 at home, and 1 if not 2 more hi-majors, and at least one more tough mid.....very good non-conference schedule, which you should have considering what returns.
