2015-2016 OOC Games
« on: June 05, 2015, 04:29:48 pm »
I think it's about time to move on from last season's another disappointment.

We have some exciting additions, including a true PG who sat out last year, and a surprising return of an old face.

Just wanted to know if you all have any early info on our OOC schedule? Any well know opponent? Any early season tournament?

Somehow, it always seems that SBU comes out with its OOC schedule later than the others.  I'm looking forward to hearing about some good match-ups, but would especially like to see some good teams agree to play at the arena.  The only one I'm pretty sure of at this point is that Hofstra will be at "The Island" this year.

Princeton will be here also but other than that I have no idea. I agree it would nice to see a few high mid majors or maybe a major program here. I understand Northeastern is hosting Michigan State in December. If we could get a Buffalo or VCU here it would be great. Maybe Coach P can coax  UConn to come across the sound that game would sell seats . One game like that a season  would be terrific for our program.

Hofstra will be playing here, too. I was told the bigger schools like VCU or UConn won't come to SB and play not because of fear of losing, but because it all has to do with TV time and money. If Uconn agrees to play SB at SB, that school in their conference, who they could be playing, instead loses air time and millions.. That's what I was told by an insider. I am sure there's a little more to it than that but $$$ is the driver when it comes to scheduling home games. This is why mid major schools always have a very tough time scheduling games, and  out of desperation they will throw in one or two non Div1 schools just to fill the schedule!!

Hammer I agree it is about money and some prestige.  Duke lax was here this past season with no problem they use a game like that for recruiting purposes mostly.  But bring Coach K and his Duke hoops team to Long Island it would need an act of Congress.   I doubt very much  they would lose except in dollars .

Hopefully there won't be any non-D1 games this year. It'd be nice to see a buildup of local rivalries like Fordham, St. Francis, LIU, Columbia, and of course Hofstra.

I would add Manhattan , Iona and Wagner to that local list .  These games  hopefully would get some local media attention .  So we will see who we play  hopefully later this summer.

Agreed!! St.Johns would be great, too. Probably won't happen unless SB moves out of the AE, and that's not happening either. If Albany not in talks to move out we certainly aren't!!!!

Yikes!!  UCONN has begun to release their OOC schedule, and AE schools UMASS-Lowell, UNH and Maine are all on it!!  I find that somewhat disconcerting, don't you?  With Coach P's connections at UCONN wouldn't you think that SBU be the first choice for AE competition?

Do you really think UConn is hesitant to play Stony Brook because Stony Brook is good?  Kevin Ollie considers Pikiell a friend and a colleague and wouldn't gain any satisfaction by beating SBU.  UConn doesn't play Quinnipiac and a number of other schools coached by UConn grads.

No, of course not. But that is the answer I always get from coach P year after year when I ask why cant we get a larger school to come and play at SB!!!!!!!
