In answer to a previous question, here are 7 coaching candidates who I would take a look at (I have no doubt that there are better candidates than these guys, but these are the group that came to mind)

David Cason (currently a VCU assistant)
Jeremy Ballard (currently a VCU assistant)
Phillip Pearson (currently an assistant at UGA)
Eric Musselman (currently an assistant, former NBA head coach, but is only making ~$190k at LSU...)
Oliver Purnell (former DePaul HC, resigned '15, developing a Big East program with no tools)
Anthony Grant (former Alabama HC, fired '15 for only making the NIT...)
Seth Greenberg (former Va Tech HC, now an ESPN analyst)

I agree replacing him would be a gamble, but I don't think it's as risky as it appears.  I'm willing to bet that these guys would AT LEAST be as effective as Pikiell, but if they aren't as effective, we would still be very hard-pressed to go back to the 4-24 days (considering our conference, and our OOC scheduling philosophy, i'd be shocked if don't get 10-15 wins per year EASILY).

I still think that it comes back to what we are willing to accept.  If we're ok with 20 wins and a CBI berth, then he should stay. The problem with this is that every year the failures continue, the harder it gets to break the streak (just ask the Cubs...)

i think that's the same greenberg from my hometown (in nassau) and had a brother that played bball as well.

with that said, fans/teams are too quick to fire these days.  end up getting the same or worse service.  we dont want coaches to feel they are constantly on the hot seat; just like your QB.  pikiell can adjust and change.  it just has to happen now.

who knows, maybe the admin thinks this is a new era now that the stadium is actually built; regardless of the fact that they have been selling it to recruits for a few years now.

The  problem is the conference is a 1 bid conference. You must win three games to get a 15 or 16 seed then face  a 1 or 2 seed. Bad selling point for a former big time coach.  We are not going to be a Sweet 16 team anytime soon  nor entice many big programs to come here for games.   So its a double  whammy. Bring a big name in  beat up on UMBC and Maine etc and hope we can win 3 straight in March just to be thrown to the wolves.  If we ever move up a notch or two in conference membership lets say to the MAC then  it makes sense . Even the CAA is a 1 bid league so no advantage there either.   I would be very happy with a team like VCU, Northern Iowa or Witchita St but that's a dream right now. Its the AE  and 1 bid wonders  for quite awhile.  So I don't think a coaching change will help unless we go in a tail spin with academics and wins and losses .  Our landscape has to change first before we become a real D1 basketball power.  So we win 20 plus games a season and hope for the best in March .

I have seen the bad in this program when they entered D1, it was horrible. Since Piekel arrived the team has become relivent. Consider he was playing in a high school gym. If you think that the new building won't draw recruits then you are not being realistic. They lost on a flukish buzzer beater in a gimmic tourney ( anytime all or most teams are eligible to make a tourney, its a gimmick ). You are not gonna get a better coach at this time.

The Cubs have changed owners, managers and players many times and still haven't won.  That may change soon.

No one is ok with 20 wins and a CBI berth.  If Pikiell corrects his biggest weakness (shooting) this team goes to the Tourney. He's pretty damn good at everything else.

A little bit of both Chairman... Had SBB made 10% more on their foul and FG shooting, we no doubt would have been playing the Sooners instead of Albany, just 10%!!!

It's a lock that Pikiell is here until at least the end of the 2017-18 season (when Thrower, Sekunda, Nyama, Petras, and Sturdivant graduate).

Pikiell is doing a very good job, but at what point are we allowed to say that "very good" is "not good enough"?

I agree. Does 20+ wins every season and not winning the Conference Tournament and not going to the NCAA warrant  contract extension?? I guess a lot depends on who is willing to fill his shoes with NCAA experience!
