we're about halfway through.  lets have a look at the #s so far:

attendance: 19k (2723 per game).  of course depends on whether, opponent, and holidays or other events.  good but not great considering the grand opening.  also away attendance is 30k.  B-

record: 10-6, a few shouldve won games (hof, princeton, canisius).  horrible 2-6 road record.  B-

shooting %: .420 which is solid (and beats our opponent's total), though i have to say with warney (and even mcgrew to an extent) commanding such a chunk of those field goals, that # is then a bit low.  C

threes: .325 which is not good and lags behind our opposition.  this costs us so much.  but then again, it arguably won the washington game.  carson and thrower shouldnt be taking these; mitchell nyama and sekunda have been a nice surprise.  D+

charity stripe: i know in the NBA a good % is over 85% and that's not the case in the NCAA.  but .662 isnt great.  it is on par with our opponents though.  have we lost a lot of close games?  not really.  so maybe better FT shooting wouldve helped, cant really say.  and yes, mitchell shoots better from three-land live than on the foul line!  B

rebounds: blowing teams away 41 to 31 on average.  thats critical.  we especially crush opponents on O rebounds.  obviously, its all warney and mcgrew.  A+

fouls: we foul less than our competition, but that doesnt paint the entire picture at all.  are they ill-timed fouls?  do they prevent scores?  do our opponents score?  have our foul-outs cost us?  have our players in foul trouble been kept off the floor when needed?  how often do we meet double bonus?

turnovers: 202 total, almost 13 a game.  B-

blocks: warney with 40 in only 16 games.  manchild.  A

Just home from the game. Nyama a big night, McGrew was solid throughout. Felt like Puriefoy and Mitchell were both sparks midway through the second half that turned things around. Next two games will be tough and telling to see if SBU can hang near the top--a lot can happen during the next half of conference play. If UA indeed runs away with the regular season title, a #2 seed would be nice.

Hartford always shows great ability from beyond the arc, I figured this was gonna be a tough game. Here are my takeaways:

1. Puriefoy is starting to play more like his old self- he attacked the hoop much more in the 2nd half. He's still not where he was at earlier this half but much ahead of where he was the last few games. He finished the game very strongly. He's the one guy who we can rely on to hit FT late in the game.

2. McGrew still continues to produce- he was a beast on the glass and remains one of the most underrated players in the conference.

3. Kam and DeShaun each hit huge threes. Kam's three point shot was a huge momentum changer

Overall, big stretch coming up. If we can knock off Vermont and next week that will be huge. Getting a top 2 seed in the conference tourney would be fantastic. Given our recent performances against UVM/Albany (especially the butt kicking in Burlinton) we should be the underdog against UVM.

and yes, Albany beat UVm and in other news UNH defeated Maine.  they're 5-3 with a 1 point loss to Hart, 2 point loss to UA, and us by 10.  they also beat vermont last week.

A solid beating at the hands of UNH today and, frankly, just some rather flat, uninspiring performances throughout conference play.

There is only one prize at the end of the AE tunnel--winning the conference tournament. Any hope left for that this year? Time to turn attention to LAX and baseball? Seems there is a significantly diminished buzz about this team and its chances this year after all the lofty hopes and predictions.

Discuss....

I didn't watch the entire game but  what i did see, this team is finished, done. SB is completely useless on the road this year . Even if we make it to the Championship game, probably up in Albany, SB will get blown out.....I cant believe how atrocious they are with the 3 ball this year. Not one single player on this team can shoot from the Perimeter, not one. Same holds true at the foul line. Tre is the only player we have who is a consistent foul shooter.. Hopefully next season will be better with Woodhouse stepping in as guard but as far as our other shooting guards are concerned, there's problems!!!!!!!

fourth place seems generous at this point.

then again, first/second/third has never really worked for us!!!

GO SB!!!

Considering that among the better teams Hartford is even less inspiring than SBU right now, I'd say a 4 seed looking like about the right spot unless there are some drastic changes. And considering AE tournament history, that ain't a bad spot to have.

You look at individuals on this team and their potential (and within the context that this is still the AE conference) and you still have to think, man, they are still just as good as anyone out there. UA's Rowley having a great year, but you have to say Warney remains the class of the conference. McGrew is a solid #2 man down low, and while Puriefoy is slumping he's still one of the better guards. After that, say what you want, but at least SBU has some athletes. History suggests that as long as you've got 2 or 3 good players and a few others who don't screw up you have a shot in the AE.

Yet something is wrong. This just doesn't seem like a team that is capable of elevating their play right now. Aside from occasional spurts, outside shooting is horrible. Offensive movement--be that via passing or driving--is not attacking well and there just seems to be a lot of stalled perimeter nothingness happening. Today I thought the defense, too, was just as horrible (UNH has been playing well, but c'mon they're not that good!). Feels disconcerting at this point of the season, too, that there seems to be a mad scramble to figure out who can play and what rotations will work.

Well, stranger things have happened and it still only comes down to who can win 3 straight in March....

True go 16-0 lose in March and go home for  the NIT Bid.    We cant afford any more losses  and Vermont is here next weekend that is now a must win .
