Ok so we lost 4 straight losing in OT tonight 60-59.  Have not won a road game yet  open for discussion.
Seawolf97. I am really not that all surprised with our record so far. Coach P, as usual, always puts his recruits up on a pedestal at the start of every season but, I had feeling we were going to start the season this way. Losing to Canisius is an embarrassment and that was a game we should have blown them out..The sloppiness continues with each game just continues to hound them...Our problem is obvious. We really only have 2 maybe 3 play makers on this team this year and our new recruits are not stepping up... One player who I am very disappointed  so far is Deshaun Thrower. I thought he would make an instant impact on the floor playing along side Purify. He is showing his frustrations with every miss shot, but i think he will mature with time, just not an instant impact player... ... Now that the OOC schedule is just about over, thank god, we will just have to see what players coach P is going to use as a starters. If coach P continues to start Mitchel, then I would have to think we wont even make it pass the first round of the conference playoffs, forget NCAA!!!!

Warney is a beast...19 points and 18 rebounds. This team has one of the best players in the country among Mid-Majors and yet it can't muster a single vote in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll with a 3-6 record (wins against non-D1 don't count). Instead of moving forward this program is regressing.

How do you figure we have some of the best players in the country?. We have Warney who is the best player in the mid majors but who else do we have? ?  Puriefoy is a good mid major guard but who else on this year team is good... Basketball is a team effort without other  players contrib, you don't have a team. We normally have Puriefoy and warney on the floor at the same time that's why keep the games close... who else contributing on a consistent basis

Hammer, re-read my post...."ONE of the best players in the country among Mid-Majors." I agree that he doesn't have an all-star supporting cast, but a team can go a long way with a great big man. It's just not happening for this team.

First post here. Seems like the place where there is some SBU activity, unlike that other place where the UVM fans are bullies...  :-)

Anyway, all I saw was the box score from this last game. Looks like it was a pretty uninspired shooting night for both teams. Seems SBU is still struggling overall to find pieces that might work beyond the Big Two players...and maybe McGrew who does seem to do about what he's capable of most games with a pretty consistent effort. At the end of the day, they were right there with a chance to win this last game. I gather Puriefoy missed two at the end of OT that could have been game-winners? Just missed them? I don't know.

But, with AE play around the corner, who do they have to beat? Perhaps UVM and UNH are playing a bit above expectations, but everyone else appears to be struggling just like SBU.

I don't know what the fix might be for SBU besides continued playing time and tinkering in small ways with the lineup, but after those first 3 players there's just not a lot of options I'd say (and even as I write, now I think Nyama seems to have developed into a pretty solid fit). These next couple of games at home will be interesting, and hopefully will be a chance to get some confidence back before (probably) getting blasted out in Washington.

Appears it will be one big dogfight among about 5 teams in AE play. I'd say there's going to be a lot of split series with the home teams winning most, and probably all of those 5 teams will approach March with 4-5 conference defeats going into the AE tournament. Right now from where I sit is simply looks like the top pre-season picks have all taken steps back while UNH and UVM have taken surprising steps forward.

All that within context SBU still has two of the top players in the conference, and in this conference that's usually all you need to be right there at the end. I admit that probably like most SBU fans going into the season I thought/hoped they would be sitting better at this point and that the new players would have more solidly shown contributions. Coach P said to the crowd after that first win against Columbia to be patient and that this team would be very up and down. Say whatever you want, but that public assessment was spot on!

Agree with Moveitfred. Losses to Georgia, Hofstra, Cincinnati, Princeton, Providence, Canisius...all on the ROAD. Sure, it would have been nice to get a win or two (esp Hofstra, Canisius), but the fact is that YOUNG teams...EARLY in the season...on the ROAD...have a tendency to struggle and need time to jell.

This experience will pay off in conference play and when we get back in the new arena. When all is said and done, we'll be a high seed, and it will all depend on how we play over two weekends in March (again).

I think we'll be fine in the conference season. But its tough to watch this league in November/December. This league sucks. Borderline DII league. It really kills my hopes. I'm sure the wolves will be fine after the conference season starts. I can't take any more one-point losses.

Nonetheless, Go Seawolves!

solid win over LC.  we cant shoot.  and we get into three trouble.  and our foul shooting isnt great.  inside, outside, all of it.  rebounding keeps us in it.  specifically on O.  warney is an absolute monster.  we do have some guys that can drive the hoop and create.  so its no wonder we get zoned like LC did at times.

It seems Coach P has reached his peak. He has done great things and made this a respected program. But his end game strategy always falls flat, sometimes I wonder whether he even has an end game plan in close games.

If he fails to take us to the Dance this year, I say we look for a new coach. We will thank him for all the great things he has done and will part with no ill feelings. May be even name a stand in the arena after his name in his honor! The Pikiell stand or Pikiell end or something.

At this stage, with new arena and buzz, we should be looking at reaching the dance every year. We should be the top dog in this low-major conference. We should be like Davidson who dominated SoCon last 10/12 years, reaching NCAA almost every year. We should aim for true mid-major like Atlantic 10, where Davidson eventually moved. We have the budget. We have the support. We should hold our coach responsible for a higher standard.

Currently, I am not optimistic that this team is capable of winning three straight America East tournament games in March. I dearly hope that I am wrong.

Hoping for a good show vs American tonight. A solid effort by 5+ wolves and a win would be a good thing to see. Then, some fresh salmon and coffee out in Seattle and let's just keep everyone healthy and rested for UNH in January.

I'd say all things considered the Seawolves are sitting pretty good right now with four positions and players: Warney and Puriefoy (of course) along with McGrew and Nyama. Getting about what one would want and expect from those last two at this point. The last spot is a work-in-progress, it seems, and perhaps Sekunda can work into that spot. I like Mitchell and Sturdivant off the bench, and hoping Thrower and Braley will develop into bright spots. For the AE, SBU still looks as good as anyone right now.

Seems UA playing well right now, Hartford up and down with a dangerous up-side, UVM looks like a reload and ready to beat everyone, and a surprising UNH could beat anyone too.

Conference play could be a real barn-burner if everyone stays injury-free and firing through the winter. Eventual conference winner can probably look forward to a play-in game before getting served up to UK or Duke!

Movieitfred, I agree about the play-in game. That's why I don't get excited about the prospect of making the NCAA Tournament when the team has been mediocre so far. To show up as a 16 seed just to get pummeled is a shallow achievement (even though they haven't achieved it yet).  I'd rather see them play in the NIT and get past the first round as they did in 2013, but even that's questionable based on play so far.

Let's give credit where credit's due; nice couple of wins on this home stand!!  The young guys finally seem to be getting the defensive side of the equation.  Sturdivant and Nyama, especially, are beginning to show real talent.  If Sekunda can relocate that beautiful shot he recently seems to have lost, things could brighten up a bit.  Don't give up on our boys yet!!
