Challenging to say the least. Maybe we get lucky and  win a couple.

USAToday projects SB at #66. That's better than some other predictions and I think more accurate, though I'd like to think we can do better than a 16 seed if/when we make the Tournament.

Great article. I think  we can knock off Georgia and maybe Western Kentucky, Cincy and Gongaga  are  in a class by themselves especially at home.

Info seems pretty sketchy right now.  But, from what I'm seeing, it looks like SBU may have picked up a big man from Slovakia (Jakub Petras).  Can't tell yet whether it's for this season or next.  But, I think he's already 20 years old, so I imagine it's for the near term.  The data I've seen lists him as anywhere from 6'8" to 7'0".  But, looking at the video (see below), my guess is that he's at least 6'10".  The stats that I've seen aren't that imposing, but who knows?  Anyway, here are a couple of links:

(Note: he's no. 33 in orange)

I'm not impressed with this kid. I think you can find a ton of big men with the same skills as Petras here in the US. Lets see what Pikell has to say first before we all pass judgment on him!!!

Seems  a little raw. 1 1/2 stars  is not impressive I guess we will wait for any official  announcement.

I actually really like this signing. We desperately need his size inside, and looking at his tape, Jakub moves really well for a big guy. Pikiell can work with that.

I think it's also worth noting that Jakub's team in the video posted had big men going to Louisville and Pitt. He's playing on very talented teams. Don't worry about his stats not jumping off the page.

That Canarias Basketball Academy team this year had a 7'2" kid go to Louisville, a 7' (#6 in video) go to Maryland, and a 6'11" go to Rutgers (originally Pitt but changed to Rutgers).  Lot of quality bigs in his class on that team.  Seems like a no-brainer to me; you needed another big.

To add a bit more info, we are pretty familiar with the Canarias Basketball Academy here in NJ because Seton Hall had 3 players from there a couple years ago.  I think Petras now makes at least 8 of their players in this class getting D1 chances, although I think the kid that Iona offered ended up going JUCO:

For those that like to plan ahead while we all wait for the full schedule to be released:

-- 11/14: Columbia @ SBU (7:00 P.M.)
-- 1/6/15: SBU @ Columbia (7:00 P.M.)

Based upon what I've been able to figure out from other released schedules, here's an update of SBU's OOC schedule so far:

11/14 vs. Columbia @ SBU
11/21 @ Hofstra
12/2  @ Cincinnati
12/18  @ Canisius
12/23 vs. American @ SBU
12/28 @ Washington
1/6  @ Columbia

I found released OOC schedules for both Gonzaga and Western Kentucky, but neither indicates that SBU willbe an opponent this year.

Looks like the following can be added to the above:  12/13  @ Providence

Possible dates for Gonzaga, Western Kentucky, LIU-Bklyn or Georgia can only be determined once the mess that is known as the 2014-2015 Preseason NIT Tip-Off is squared away.  So, the way I see it, the only other OOC yet to be schduled for SBU is Loyola (Md), which should be the only other OOC game at the new arena.

Re: my post above, please revise as follows:

I meant to say that the Loyola game should be the only D1 game left to be scheduled at the new arena.  That would make only 3 OOC D1 home games against between 7 and 9 (depending on how the NIT tourney works out) away.  It's going to be a tough road for the Seawolves!!

Hopefully we get LIU at home that would be a good match up.

Well, If our Football team falls apart this year at least we can look forward to Basketball season... It's going to be their toughest schedule yet!!!
