2011/12: Game 28 Stony Brook vs Maine - CBS Sports Network
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:50:55 am »
So lets get ready to party... Almost! After four great months for Stony Brook fans, the regular season is coming to an end, and what's better than to have a chance to clinch another Regular Season champions. This is the time, for every stony brook fan to take a deep breath and realize how far we have come. After the historic "choke/meltdown/upset" by Vermont last night, its up to Stony Brook to close it out at home (where we are undefeated). Lets enjoy the game and hope that our Seawolves defeat Maine and make it  a statement game.

I pick SBU to win by 10, fans will storm the court!

(Stony Brook has resurfaced the Stony Brook Arena, most likely in anticipation for a possible championship game at STONY BROOK!!!!)

Go Seawolves

The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.

IF the Wolves run the table beginning with Maine and ending with the conference championship game, there's a chance their RPI and second-half of the season record could push them into a 15 seed for the NCAA tournament and avoid the dreaded 16 seed. Vermont was a 13 seed a few years ago, so there's still a chance.

I think we don't have any chance AT ALL of having a 15 seed. Its either a 16th seed or a Play-in-Game. The America East is too weak this year. No Chance for us to get a better seed.

Nope, your "AT ALL" doesn't hold up. Last year UC Santa Barbara, Northern Colorado, and St Peter's all got either 14 or 15 seeds and their ending ratings were lower than SB's rating is today. If SB keeps winning and the committee sees that they've won 20 of their last 22 (or whatever it is), that's even more of a case for a 15 seed. It's not probable, but the facts just don't support no chance "AT ALL."

I hope that we do. I just think they aren't going to give us a 15 seed. Lets see what happen. Right now, Bracketology puts SB in the PIG

Right now, according to RPI, we'd be the 67th best team (out of 68) in the dance.

Now, if there are a handful of low-major upsets in their respective tournaments (Coppin State winning the MEAC, Lamar winning the Southland, stuff like that), we could avoid the PiG.

A whole lot of ridiculous stuff would have to happen for us to get a #15, but it's technically "possible".  That said, it's also "possible" Jessica Biel could grow tired of Justin Timberlake, and swing by my place tonight with nothing but a bikini and a baconator....
Basketball & Football season ticket holder since 2009...

I survived the Coastal Carolina game and all I got was mild hypothermia and a Seawolf win!

Great season so far.  I hope Stony Brook keeps things moving into the conference tourney and into the dance.

Thanks for the good words Hoosier. As mentioned earlier, you're classy and a credit to your school. Much unlike many goofball Syracuse football fans who have been acting like fools on their board when they found out their team will be playing Stony Brook in September. Root for us to beat them. We have a chance with SB's recent recruiting class (which includes HIGH profile Big Ten transfer Marcus Coker).

Like I said, if the committee considers trend, then having won 20 of the last 22 games by that time could be worth a move from 16 to 15, especially if some surprises happen in other lower conference tournaments.

My regards to Jessica.

The NCAA refuses to call them play in games - but thats what they are.  Wouldnt we rather get into that game at this point?  Thats a game that would be realistic to have a shot and win.  I would think for recruiting and program cache' saying youve won in the NCAA's would be a gabillion times better than saying we participated.

Salty, the way I see it, the real value of making the tournament is having millions of people across the country see "Stony Brook" when they're filling out their brackets. It gives all of our athletic programs more name recognition to hlep with recruiting and will most likely lead to an increase in donations to the university. I don't see any value in going to the NCAA's and losing in the play-in game, which is why I'd much rather be 15 seed and most likely end up 0-1 in the tournament games rather than risk not making the tournament by playing in the pig.

I think our RPI got a little boost last night when Northeastern beat  George Mason in a CAA matchup. Mason is a solid Mid- Major maybe not as strong as they were a few years ago but a nice win for the Huskies since we reap some of the benefits.
