2011/12: Game 22 Stony Brook at Albany
« on: February 03, 2012, 05:57:51 am »
Stony Brook (14-7, 9-1) travels to Albany (15-9, 7-3) for a big match up in front of a soldout Big Purple Growl crowd. This is an important game to win with Vermont right in our backs. The 6th man is going to make this a tough matchup so I'll say that Stony Brook wins by 4. I have my doubts, but I hope the SB defense prevails just as it did a month ago.

Granted the atmosphere will be tough to play in, this a game Stony Brook should win. Albany has given up 68 points to Bing and 76 to a Plummer-less UMBC in their last two home games. Stony Brook should be able to put 70+ and I don't think we'll give up 70. But, there haven't been many games this season I haven't thought we should we win.

Certainly this is a game we can win. Albany will give us their absolute best shot and their crowd will be juiced.
We have a veteran group so I am not concerned with our play. What I fear is that the Danes may be able to
elevate their play ( potentially even on the defenseve end of the court ) and be a very difficult out.

This one could get really interesting.  If Albany comes out flat, that big crowd could turn really hostile (we've seen it happen before).  If they  come out playing hard, the crowd will feed on that and make SBU's life tough.

I'm expecting an SBU win, but not by much.  I figure Suero will score 30+, but he'll allow 35+ with lazy defense, and Wolves win by 4.

I would expect Albany to play much tougher D tonite at home. I would like to see us isolate whoever Suero guards for a few possessions to see how it works. If he covers Dave let him drive. If he covers Tommy or Al post him up and clear out. Either score or get him in foul trouble. Need to get early lead and take the crowd out of the game

Put it in the books. Solid win. To get out of Albany with the win is a big step forward for the program.
Now on to UNH. This could be tough also.
Coley and Rapier with big contributions. Team effort as usual.

Good win. Solid offense, good shooting once again. This team is playing well!!!! The short drought was scary but they were able to get past that.

Albany also played hard. This is going to be a great team next year

Great win in a tough arena.  Albany played  well but not well enough. Could we win the regular  season title  on the road ?  Guarantee trip to the NIT ! That would make the Maine game meaningless at Pritchard .

Signature win on road. Packed house, 5000+, BPG, Albany undefeated at home.... and managed to pull a win. Great stuff, not sure everybody appreciates how difficult that was. Still nearly impossible to run the table...headed from Albany direct to UNH, and still road games at UVM and Hartford. Long way to go but lots to be proud of w this team.

The team is going directly to UNH. Not even seeing home for the next few days. Good luck to them at UNH, a tough place to play at

Glad they were able to put UA away in the end.  In the America East, you can't get more hostile than the Big Purple Growl.  Great win!

Indeed... espcially when your coach gets thrown BBQ sauce by an idiot.

They were throwing BBQ sauce and chicken nuggets at the whole team during player introductions. Great security at Albany,
