2011/12: Game 16 Stony Brook @ Boston - ESPN3
« on: January 12, 2012, 02:37:49 pm »

After a 89-49 rout of UMBC at their home our team now travels to New England to face defending champion Boston on a rematch of the AE championship game. We are currently riding a six game winning streak and our first 4-0 start in conference play.

As a result, I will pick my team to beat Boston University by at least 7 points.

Lets enjoy it!!!!!!Go Seawolves

BU has played the toughest schedule in the AE to this point and they have the cachet of having had good teams in the past, but the numbers show they are a mediocre team this year. Sagarin has them at #232 out of 345 teams. For Stony Brook to demonstrate consistency and be a truly good team, they need to beat mediocre teams like BU on the road. Beating up on UMBC one game and losing to BU the next won't cut it. Plus, they should have the added "revenge" factor working for them.

The problem with using the computer models is they don't account for the all the games Irving missed with a concussion. Don't get me wrong, BU is a fairly mediocre team, but they're better than the computer models suggest. I think we will win though. We should outrebound them by a bunch and we won't give Partin many open looks.

I agree that at this point, we look to be stronger than BU.
However, our history against this team is inconsistent at best.
There are a couple of note worthy wins in the past, but mostly
we have taken it on the chin from them over the years.
I am confident we can win this game , but with Irving rounding
back into shape, they will be a tough out on their court.

BU is a different beast with Irving in the line-up. The guy really is one of the best PG's in the conference.

I think we are the better team, but BU was picked first in the coaches' poll for a reason. This isn't going to be an easy one, that's for sure.

This team is different to any other team we had before. I strongly believe we got this game as long as they play similar to what they been playing in the past two-three games....

Our Depth + Consistent Offense (meaning no Droughts) are key for success.

If we keep getting that distributed offense from the team there is no way we loosing this one. We everyone takes the pressure off Dougher he shoots even better.

This game is more than winable.   We  have beaten BU  before on their  court.       Just  no scoring  droughts and solid defense . SBU by 6.

Disappointing loss. The Wolves had a chance to separate themselves from the pack, and they didn't do it. I don't see it happening this season. They are now one of five teams that have a chance to win the conference and/or the AE tournament. If they can't beat BU on the road, they'll have trouble at Vermont, Maine, and Albany. Glad to see Vermont drop the game at NH today.

I am not overly concerned at all about todays loss at all.

We saw that BU was able to pressure us early, force turnovers and bad shots, and move the ball easily.  But once the jitters were gone, the game was very winnable.  The fact is, if you take away the first 7 minutes, then this game would be won by SBU.

Losing on the road to BU isn't massive.  We weren't going 16-0 in conference.  It's one game, don't read too much into it.  Just like we shouldn't read too much into the 40 pt whoopin on UMBC.  That was only one game as well.

Jag...excellent points. Anyone who thought this game had any real bearing on the regular season championship is seriously deluded. With no dominant team everybody is going to beat everybody over the next 2 months and the conf champ will likely be decided the last weekend in Feb...and then off to Hartford where anything can happen.
